So pretty much my laptop died and i had to get a new hard drive, which is simple enough, but i lost all my data so all the songs that i had put on my itunes were gone, what i want to know is that if i download a new itunes and put a few songs on there that i don't have on my ipod, would it erase all my songs on my ipod, or just add the songs into my library like usual?.

You'll have to rip the music on your ipod with a third party program. The same thing happened to me and apple support's phone line told me to do that.

http://www.bigasoft.com/ipod-transfer.html ought to do it
