Is it possible to remove option where it auto balances based on dominations per team?

I'll tell you for why, because it hinders more than helps.

I was playing Goldrush last night and it seemed to be a pretty fair game, only difference was one team had more dominations than the other, so after blu got the cart to the last point on the first part, the auto balance came in and changed the teams based on dominations per team...after that it was a walkover for blu.

This is the 2nd time I've seen this happen so I figured I'd make a post and see what others have to say or if its a case of 'shut up and get on with it' :lol: :4 :5:

Does it actually give the reason "balanced due to too many dominations" ?

Can't remember seeing a setting like that :shock:

@ Saint, yes it does, for every type of balance/scramble that is triggered afaik

The domination balance really isn't suited for attack/defend style game modes like CP_Attack Defend and Payload as the red team has a much better chance for dominations as blu are the ones having to take the risks and push etc.

It is however, suitable for straight CP game modes and CTF etc

Is it possible to remove domination balancing on payload and attack defend maps?

Yes - see the topic about the balancer in the TF2 management section. We need to split it out per maptype.

I know it gives a reason everytime, just can't remember ever setting options for it to balance due to too many dominations.

There was a game I was playing not so long ago, blu were full of dominations and red only had a couple and I was hoping for a scramble but it didn't happen so I don't think the balancer looks at the dominations.

I was on the server last night with Gibbos and Balls, and when it triggered a scramble it did mention something about dominations (can't remember exactly what though) which seemed strange to me :?

There are indeed translations for it;
Code:
	"DominationMessage"
	{
		"en"		"Winning team player-domination-difference detected"
And I found the cvar, it does apparently exist. Maybe it's a new one which came with a recent update and got overseen by us.
Code:
// If a team has this many more dominations than the other team, then trigger a scramble.
// 0 = disables this check
gs_as_domination_diff "5"

Yes it has happened a few times, i just don't think its suitable for certain game types which favour the red side.

I guess your situation anna, was when the scrambler was playing up because I had a similar game on granary the other day, when no scramble happened for the whole map and all it's rounds.

is it possible to direct it to only work on specific game types only?

Yes I thought as much ^^

Cool then hopefully we can just use this type of scramble on straight cp maps and ctf maps etc and prevent it from happening on attack/defend and payload :D If everyone else agrees that is a good idea ofc :D

Shouldn't there still be a reason to scramble if it ignores dominations at all? In that case there should be a score difference, too, so that it'd still autobalance?

Good thinking batman, a score difference is just as important with the scramble.

remember though, on attack/defend and payload maps, blue will on average have a higher score as they get cap points; which then causes scramble inconsistencies.

Shouldn't the cap points work out with higher kill counts for the other team?

There wasn't that much of a difference in the points though

the scramble was correct, the outcome however.... Not so ^^

The scrambles are largely based on HLstatsX info, we were playing with loads of new players which don't have much records yet in it's database, so it messed up the scramble a bit.

What confuses me is this;
Code:
// 11 = Use HlxCe Rank
// 12 = Use HlxCe Skill
hlstatsxce skill = rank. So not sure why we have these options. Currently we use Skill mode, maybe it's worth a try to put in on Rank, although in theory that should do exactly the same. Cvars are not always explained very well.

This is the full list of options;
Code:
// Player scramble sort mode.
// 1 = Random
// 2 = Player Score
// 3 = Player Score Per Minute.
// 4 = Player Kill-Death Ratios
// 5 = Swap the top players on each team, controlled by gs_top_swaps
// 6 = Use GameME rank
// 7 = Use GameMe Skill
// 8 = Use Global GameMe rank
// 9 = Use Global GameMe skill
// 10 = Use GameMe Session
// 11 = Use HlxCe Rank
// 12 = Use HlxCe Skill
// 13 = Sort by player classes
// 14 = Choose randomly one of the above sort modes.
Maybe it's worth trying a non-hlstatsx option.

Indeed, equally, really awesome high skill players who join our servers also have a low database record and also mess up the scramble too, or worse case, don't get scrambled :<
