Still trying to keep it alive, but was a real struggle filling the server yesterday.
Thing is TF2 is still as popular as ever.

Well its popularity is down a lot according to steam stats, 4x more people play black ops now, and even modern warfare 2 has 2x more users playing. And manconnomy update surely put some people off it :|

Don't close it down!!
I'm sure it'll get popular again soon; plus lots of the Minecrafters are now getting TF2.

meh black ops MP didnt grab me like cod4 did.

anyway, they will all come back to TF2, its like CS:S before it, people would swarm and play the "new" game, but after a month or two, come back to TF2. Plus its still like the only decent class based/ team orientated game out atm, there isnt much like it, that does it as well.

Also just from looking at my friends list I can tell its not that popular, usually there were at least 10 people playing tf2 in the evening, yesterday was just Balls and random dude I probably added for trading and forgot to delete :ugly:

this happens all the time with new releases, TF2 is not dying, its just old, and most people today have attention spans that can only be counted in nano-seconds.

Well there's not much to draw you on standard server like SpA after so many years of playing tbh - only most popular maps ( I cant stand goldrush, dustbowl, well and few other maps ), no map vote, almost no custom maps, well there arent even all Valve maps available. In my opinion if you wont introduce map voting and ability for people to insert map of their choice ( including customs ) into vote servers will die and spa points system is not a solution. I can tell you this just by looking on some of my other favourite server, they are still full till about midnight every day despite new game releases.

On topic:
Every time I want to play tf2 pub, which is rarely enough, I check the SpA servers, since I'm not really playing on other pubs.
But most the time they are either empty or filled with people I never heard of. Cba being the only one I know there, I can go and play some random pub then... :|

in the first place, it needs to be filled up by inviting people into the game - invites which are getting sent, but generally less and less accepted. then it needs to get about half full before random bypassers start coming in. so it's harder that it was, but it's still doable. just that most people don't want to play it atm, but i think that it's the kind of game that people will come back to. that said, the whole experimental team balancing thing put alot of people off, and while 99 percent of the regulars have been back on and have seen that it's been removed, things still haven't really recovered. with black ops, lol, l4d2 and minecraft kicking about, maybe the servers won't be full for day after day for weeks on end as they once were (outside of summer does tend to be quieter anyway), but if you want a game of tf2 - hey, if you invite them, they will (eventually) come.

it's this vs the 'we've always done it this way at SpA' argument. both of them should be considered equally at this stage in the game.

spa server still has its strengths though - regulars that still play tf2, and a playerbase that, on the whole, is great to play with and offers a decent level of skill (i say this tentatively, with my limited experience outwith SpA tf2 servers).

you can't o'snap yourself... this is not how it works unity :ugly:

But, on topic, bart makes some fair points (maybe less on the custom map stuff, because, they can clear out servers equally as fast as shit official maps) so its a gamble there. Not sure if the higher-up's would consider a voting system thou. I have recommended we cut some of the server killing maps from standard rotation.

But i still really enjoy tf2 and playing on spa servers, its how i found out about spa, so im gonna try and keep it going (especially since im bored of black ops already)

Its not the game dying, its just spa servers... Map voting is a standard today but you will do whatever you want ;) And one popular custom map voted by players every 10-15 maps doesnt empty the server that is used to map voting, trust me. On spa its just after some good maps and rounds people forget to check/change nextmap, less popular map comes and half of the server is gone and its really hard to fill it up again.

I come and go, though I've been less active the last few weeks now. I blame GT5 for that.

I get lots of invites but I usually don't have the time to play when I receive these or I'm just away from the computer (which I am a lot).
