The longer the wait, the sweeter the pie....
Right
The better your camera will feel! ( be sure not to drop those plastic cased cannons though, one drop and your camera will be fucked! Maybe see if you can get an extended insurance/guarantee).
I got me one of these as well
You also have that in rain proof version, it's small and enables you to carry and grab your camera quickly when you want to make a nice shot of some stupid bird who doesn't understand the meaning of the words "Hold, sit still you bastard, only 10 seconds more and I have my camera set to the right settings!"
Find yourself some internet pages or pdfs on photography, or photography for dummies. I got some nice pdfs if you'd like em and be sure to force yourself never to use the automatic settings on that camera, fully manual for the win m8, that'll get you up to speed in no time!
Ah well, just drop me a message when you wanna buy a tripod or if you want to get one of those pdfs.
Also, gorilla pod ftw
You do still need to get yourself a propper tripod for HD shots or whatever else you wanna photograph where you need to keep your camera very still and don't have a tree to clench it on with the gorilla pod.
I got this one

It's a set discount on a head and tripod. Manfrotto is one of the better pods out there. The head ain't the favorite of photographers as the majority rather uses a ball head, but it's pretty workable for ppl who don't wanna spend even more then 150 euros on a pod.
Don't think something like this will cut it
. This is one of the more expensive velbons as they also produce crap in the 30 euro price range , but this pod won't give you the usability of the better pods, they won't give you the same comfort , quality, durability and there's always a chance you'd see your DSLR tumbling down the mountain as the wind blew it over. The manfrotto i posted will cary some of the bigger lenses as well, the part where you attach your camera to the pod is from metal, etc. etc.
Gitzo has some nice pods as well, but they're expensive

As probably is clear, I'm no fan of the cheaper velbon, vanguard, hama crap, but some ppl do put their DSLRs on it. It's just that you at least need to spend a 90 euros on a pod like that which will get you crap compared to a manfrotto for a bit more bucks, while your spending 90 anyways.
