Yeah, the warnings I give out for tunneling tend to be a bit nicer than the ones I give for full on griefing. This is why we have a warn-(kick*n)-ban process. If someone truly just doesn't understand the rules, we help them out.

Actually, Tunneling only fairly rarely results in non-warn actions. Very rarely is someone banned for tunneling, it's typically grief and disrespect to the admins (which occasionally comes with tunneling, but usually with swastikas or something) that gets people banned.

Essentially, what Hafnium said while I was afk between writing the post and actually posting it.

It's a countermeasure to make sure they don't come and occupy the Minecraft servers.
Yeah, good analogy! Griefers are like the Vietcong and we will defeat them just like the Americans! Wait...

So are you allowed to build basements or do you just not permit any building underground at all?

I totally know where your're coming from on what you say Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnssssssssssssss! When, and I mean WHEN I was first on MinCecraft those many moons ago when it first christened SpA, all I could do was tunnel; I couldn't quite work out how to build only delete, and I got completely lost and couldn't get out. So I guess tunnelling is a pretty n00b thing to do.

On saying that though I did find some lava that Lim had been looking for and he was kind enough to rescue me from the terrible depths of the tunnel.

I'll say really quick because I have kicked for tunneling [shamefully presumptuous of me no doubt].

If I see someone tunneling that's the offense I'll give the absolute maximum benefit of the doubt for. Warn, freeze, summon the up to ground level, but everyone else has been right to say that it's largely just an excuse to destroy as much map as possible.

The people who tunnel down to try and come back up in others houses so they can grief them... it's really obvious what they're doing how stupid do they think we are :(.

Oh no, we fully allow building basements, its random tunneling that causes the problems. :)

Tunneling is allowed if there is a reason for it.
Random tunneling is just another form of grief.

Annarack, we're talking 1x2 / 2x2 tunnels that stretch across the entire map, not some guy's basement, or even some guy's underground missile base. The only thing against our rules is tunneling for the sake of tunneling, or covertly getting across the map. I think we have a map where people can actually tunnel just for shits and giggles anyway, antfarm is it?

Why would anyone in their right mind tunnel to get across the map? Isn't it quicker above?

Hmm, just had a look at some images of Ant Farm. I thought it would be like a real Ant Farm where you get to see a section of the tunnels :-14

If you were to dig in a small band near the end, then /r glass dirt it, it'd look like a real antfarm.

Problem is you'd need to get to the bottom of the map for one side of the /r.

Noclip actually kinda sucks for that purpose because it's really hard to alter blocks from inside them. It's easier with glass, but still a PITA.

You can fly out of the map and go to the bottom of the map, you don't have to be inside the bottom block.

But then don't you see bedrock? Or are you referring to flying out and using /mark?

I always find /mark a crapshoot, since I wind up putting it in the wrong place.

The bedrock "blocks" outside the map aren't really blocks at all, its just a thin layer type thing, that isn't destroyable, and isn't visible from the other side. Try flying out and down a bit, and you'll see.

Crap at posting (32)
when you are walking hit enter to set yourself a new spawn.
So that when u hit r, you turn up in the same spot u hit enter.

If you fall into a tunnel, just build the floor below you back up. Nobody would get mad at you for that. Except the tunneler, but they really deserve it.
