Château de liberté

Patogy and I have started building a Castle in SMP
We called it Château de liberté (Freedom Castle),
It is loosely based on Patogy’s Freebuild Castle on Patogy3
Eventually we would like this to be a place for the whole community to enjoy, and a pretty impressive build (you know the kind; where people see it and think wow). So far this is coming along nicely but we have only managed parts of the walls and towers, although they are looking reasonably good, we would love for some more SMP players to get involved. Enough Backstory, time for some ‘proper’ Information.

Where is it?
Well, it is quite a walk from spawn, not too far not too close.
It’s X-co-ordinate: 1574
It’s Y-Co-ordinate: 68
and its Z-Co-ordinate: 457
What do we need?
Well we both know the community at SPA are incredibly generous and are amazing builders (buttered you up enough? Just incase) and we love you guys <3
Well we would love it if you guys would be willing to help us finish off the Castle, you could help us build walls, terraforming, etc.
And, there’s a small problem of the fee it will take to zone the actual build and everything within: Well our monthly costs are 32,357 per month and 81k to buy it all in one time… so as you can see Pat and I don’t really have that much disposable income on SMP sooo…. If you guys would be willing to make a voluntary contribution to the cost of the castle we would greatly appreciate it. Of course with a monthly fee that big we would need donations upwards of 5,000 depending on how many help :/ . In fact we are considering a very nice thank you gift worthy of your contribution

Of course after it is finished you would be free to build a house in our residential zone (yet to be established).And our Markets would be great to set up your own business

When the walls are done we'll allow people to build houses

This will be updated with house sizes/costs and style!

Smallest house:
Cost: 30 dollars for the first time, 12 dollars per month. Not very much, I know but its 0.05 x 598 and 0.02 x 598.
the costs will get higher by the height of your building. Payments can be done to Patogy, (/money pay Patogy)
Interior: Own design!
Extrior: Own design, With wood glass and logs!

The other houses will follow, their plans haven't been made yet..

We will accept random buildings but you have to build it on FreeBuild firstso that we can approve it.
(also use Wood, cobble logs and glass!)

Looks good, whats happening with all the empty spaces though? possibly put some stuff like a park or like a statue or somthing, hope it goes well, and good luck with buying the protection :p

Seems like there is one fuck of a lot of space, maybe you should make it a bit a lot smaller so the protection would actually be manageable you can have farms ect outside the protected city and have the protected city have the best buildings might be a bit late but fuck it!

One thing to keep in mind with protections: You can protect smaller areas and combine them into one Residence. So,l for example, you could zone of the towers, sections of walls and buildings you have build individually and then add them together as one protection. As you are then not protecting the stuff inside the castle walls, you wont have to pay for them and your rent will be WAY lower.

I'm gonna get a post up today with full instruction on using Residence - hopefully that will make things more clear.

This is kinda my point though: Aside from builds that are being declared as public "art" (such as Frimple's Temple) or builds that are part of the infrastructure (Iron City and Leo's Castle), all other privately owned residence's need to be self funded. If you can't afford the zoning, then I can only recommend you build it out of appropriate materials and light it well..

Take MTWDave's build for example. He is building a HUGE tower thing up north and freely accepts he cannot afford to zone it (even though Dave is admin, he is insisting on playing the game fully legit) so he is just planning ahead and building/lighting it well.

I would say that as server population rises [god willing] and more cities become sustainable it will be easier to qualify for public funding. If I were you I'd start with your residence, or some central keep, and work up from there.
