Internet explorer 8 got released. I am running it now and i must say i'm surprised by its performance boost. It actually feels as fast as chrome now.

It might feel as fast as Chrome, but it isn't. ^^
I have Chrome, Firefox and IE8 installed - just for fun - and after running some benchmarks Chrome is still the fastest browser around - not to mention the fact that it complies with web standards while IE8 is the first IE version to pass the Acid2 test, which other browsers passed years ago. ;-)
If there's one upside to Windows 7, then it's the fact that IE will be only an OPTIONAL component of it. :-D

P.S. Still not using Chrome - I'm waiting for a plugin API to appear for it.

Hmmm, strange... It does work for me:

Update:

Ha, ha! Look how it looks in compatibility mode for me - I guess that's because it emulates the IE6/7 engine (though Acid2 on IE7 looked better than this, so I don't know):

IE8 is far better than IE7 (or even far² than IE6!), but looses compared to all other browsers (esp. webstandards-wise). So I only hope that users stop to use IE6! :ugly:

Which makes as good as no difference because Win7 has everything that one would like/hate about Vista - including 2 years of patches behind it now... ^^

Kinda hopeless, but improving (144)

Even though I use Firefox as my main browser, I like IE8. It is faster than IE7 but Acid 3 test gives 12/100

I will stick to FF.

Actually Acid3 gives 20/100! :-D
You have to wait for around 10 seconds, because that's how long it takes IE to go through the final tests. ;-)

Interesting.. but:
firefox + add-blocker > all
If chrome or IE8 gets an add-blocker I'd switch.

It's hard to imagine that Google, who's biggest revenue source is advertising, would implement an ad-blocker in their browser. There might be one in the future, using some kind of extension system, but certainly no official version.
The same goes for IE, because Microsoft makes money through their live/msn services too.

There's already a rudimentary ad-block linklet you can add to Chrome. Google already said they they would release a plugin API and then it's out of their hands anyway - or you could use some Chromium build over which Google has pretty much no control either.

You can disable them on a site-to-site basis. =)
As you recall my main reason for using an adblocker on SpA were the huge-ass signatures of some people I needed to block. Some of them are still not gone. :-P

While we are on the topic of discussing browsers, here are some stats from our webpage:

Here is what browsers our visitors use (data counted for the last 7 months)

And here are the IE versions:

Good to see that most of our users don't use IE.
It still surprises me though, that there are users left that have IE6, because our audience are gamers, and I'd thought that gamers have newer systems than that.

I'll rebrand my browser so that it always identifies itself with the name generated with one of my favorite and entirely useless extensions: Firesomething.

E.g. now I'm on Mozilla Hyperturkey but it changes each time I launch the browser. :-D

My experience: IE6 is directly linked to company PCs. If I can catch a user and tell him to update his IE6, he normally answers something like he's using a company's PC.
