Having done punk I thought hardcore (or hardcore punk saint before you get excited) should be next so I routed through my vinyl and dug out these. This is from 2003 to 1992 I'll start thinking about what to drop in for the 70's and 80's later

I'd say Prince Buster was Dancehall but their kinda close enough... I'm gutted that there's no Symarip or Desmond Dekker.

Well like Reggae a lot of the music in ska was made before it was a known genre, I don't think it'd be fair to miss out The Prince.

I'm into roots reggae, never was too keen on the later genres.



Comparing the lyrics in Time, one of favourite all time songs, to Buju Banton's 'Boomboom bye bye' condemning every homosexual in Jamaica until he himself found Jah :P

Rootsy stuff just has that smooth charm.
Though I do like some of the more political reggae musicians like Mikey Dread, who died last year :(



I'm also partial to some reggae dub. King Tubby's dub is fucking top notch stuff, it's a tragedy I can't light up in my uni dorm.

Gonna see The Specials in November, so glad all these old bands are doing tours, never thought I'd see any of them live. I mean last year I got to see Madness, and it turned out that The Pogues were supporting :D
