I haven't played it Ballsy, but it's my Game of the Year for sure, and maybe even my favourite game of all time!

Some guys I know bought it on PS3 and have both said the campaign element is really good- they enjoyed it more than they thought. The Predator missions seem to be favourite.

Neither like the online experience as it stands.

I'm gonna buy it for the campaign. Not sure what format yet.

I got it on PC and with my GTX295 and all the settings put to the highest possible, it looks pretty sweet, good high res texturing.

yeah the matchmaking model is quite rubbish in comparison to mw2, which does annoy me when i try to play. but dedicated servers for PC should be coming soon.

SEGA announced that a new patch for the PC version of Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator will hit on Monday.

SEGA "will also have news on an additional feature... many of you have been waiting for which is now ready for a closed Beta test!"

This is most likely dedicated server support, which was said to be close to beta last Tuesday.

Patch Notes

General:

* Stability improvements to address rare and infrequent hangs
* Implemented a workaround for missing audio issues with certain hardware (SoundBlaster X-Fi, Realtek onboard, etc.)
* Fixed save games being lost or corrupted if connection to Steam is lost or if user switches to offline play

Multiplayer:

* Fixed XP being incorrectly affected by offline play (though only in the local stats; this will be corrected next time you connect to multiplayer)
* Fixed other players sometimes appearing to have the wrong weapon or continuing to fire indefinitely after dying
* Fixed rare issue where players would be temporarily invisible
* Fixed some selection of servers and players in menus sometimes being incorrect

So balls, does a game selling better than expected rather than what was expected affect you? I'm just wondering from a totally neutral stand point here, as I haven't actually played it or seen it.

I guess the legend of the franchise dating back to Jaguar times and of course big fanbase of Aliens movies ( and of course one Predator movie ) is enough to sell a game despite mediocre reviews.

It proves that IP will always win over perceived quality or mixed reviews. I'm happy its doing well because we need it after the last few titles we have released. It may not be perfect but with such a die hard fan base and the fact that the IP is awesome it was bound to do well. It's been a faster seller than Bioshock 2 in the uk. Plus IMHO the MP is pretty fun once you get used to the controls (well on a PC anyway as im not a console user)

To answer your question moose; it doesnt affect us financially as dev's get paid on milestones so Sega will see more in regards to that. But hopefully it will allow us to do more titles and improve upon it hopefully.

If you are gonna play it, i dont recommend the demo as it for some bizarre reason is using really old code, and dont bother downloading it illegally for the PC as it needs the steam patch to avoid hangs and crashes that weren't possible to test outside of development - which is a good case for why beta testing is so important; though the demo did allow us to fix some MP issues kind of like beta testing.

thats the industry for you howard, i by no means think its pretty, and like most of you am wondering where the fuck is episode 3... but, i dont really care, ive got a number #1 selling game on my cv, love it or hate it, its going to be beneficial for my future at least, perhaps not the advancement of gaming but im happy with the work ive contributed, sorry if that offends you.

In a "you are a nice bloke and I am pleased that this will be beneficial to your career" way, I am of course happy that this game has done well and your observations about the selling power of a given IP are well made. :4

In every other way I am horrified that this "game" sold any copies at all, but that's just me. :(

Mostly I am just annoyed that Rebellion was so daffy as to release a game that cannot be played in DX10 mode on Vista by so many people. Very poor show.

Oh, a quick FYI: the pirated version plays perfectly and has received the same patching as the Steam version. Sorry and all...
