Hilarious.
Oh man that's so ridiculous, I can feel it so much if there is the slightest change to my mouse and can't cope with it :P

I think I will wait for BF3 to be my new shooter, from the reviews it looks like Brink will just annoy me.

Kinda hopeless, but improving (112)
Aight, let's do this!

Writing stuff in the order they pop up in my head :P

I had tons of fun playing it until 07:00 Swedish time (that's about 4½ hours of gametime). Took me some getting used to the controls. At first I was like "why is dodge on C!? oh... kinda hard to slide with dodge on CTRL". Most ppl I've played against are kinda oblivious to what's going on, and no they're not bots, and there were a lot of noobs.

You unlock all weapons and attachments by doing "Challenges", that are separate maps that you need to complete in time. 4 different challenges in 3 difficulties each. They're actually kinda tutorial-ish. The first star challenges are easy, and 2 star a bit harder. 3 star is just for leaderboards and prestige. This system is great since it lets pretty much anyone who's good unlock everything within the first halfhour of playing. You can even do them with friends.

Weapon balance I don't have much to complain about. Haven't really tried that many weapons, but I've never felt like "OMFG WTF HE JUST RAPED ME!" and if I did it was a Heavy with a Machinegun outDPSing my SMG.

SMART works really good, but like everything else in the game it takes some time getting used to.

Bots are as stupid as all reviews have said, but I don't play singleplayer so... Only time I've encounterd bots was teamballance or challengemaps. And some players are just as stupid.

Abilities are unlocked with "level coins". You get 1 each level. New abilities for purchase are unlocked at every rank (level 5, level 10, level 15, level 20). Ability points can be reset by paying 1 level, but levels are gained pretty quickly anyway. You can either specialize in 1 class and unlock everything for that class, or spread your love.

That's it for now. Like I said, so far I'm enjoying it! Now off to play some more x)

welllll
without having played online (as i'm p sure the campaign can be done with online people instead of bots; haven't tried it but it sounds really cool) i think it's good

for one thing, it's intense, and the objectives are interesting tho sometimes it took a while to figure out what i was supposed to be doing (the objective wheel really helps). i've only played as soldier/medic, as i can't figure out operative and engineer seems useful only when defending (i'm playing the rebel campaign), but there's not all that much distinction between the classes yet. maybe when they branch out there will be, but with everyone having the same weapons it's feels more homegenous than they make it out to be.

the smart-move thingy has been, so far, a bit balls. as far as i can tell, it's not any different from a jump button, only it does fancy animations and maybe goes a bit higher in some places. but like i say, it's early days; maybe the later levels will have some cool set pieces. but it certainly hasn't been the revolutionary technology they've been harping on about - not evidently anyway.

but; it's a helluva lot better than most fps'es i've played recently. more interesting than black ops and bad company put together. so... watch this space i guess

Hey folks,

We’ll be sending out a new version of the Brink dedicated server on Steam within the next hour, ahead of a client patch about an hour later than that. This update will fix the net_ip issue that has been preventing some of you from hosting.

The update will increment the game version, so the servers will have to be updated if they are to support the newer client version that will be released later.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi,

Any word on when the Linux servers files are to be released?

Cheers,

Saint K.
I'm afraid we'll have to do without a Brink server provided by us.

well, customisation of the weapons is fun, but the most awesome part is the outfits :D

Anywho, if you do the challenges you get shitloads of new items/unlocks aswell as experience.
SMART is actually awesome. Sliding under the table or jumping on it just by looking :)

The messed up part is that some people already capped their character and have the best unlocks and just kill you with 3/4 shots, while you have to unload a full clip on them :/
But that makes it more interesting, because when you unlock a few good items you start owning aswell :D Very good game and well worth the money.

I also unlocked the heavy and slim build for my customisation. Heavy build means slower movement, more health, but are able to cary heavy weapons. Medium build is normal movement, normal health and allround weapons. The slim build is the equivelant of the TF2 scout. Fast, annoying and very low hp. Diversity is there if you just combine it to your own playstyle.

I see myself buying this game, playing it for a month or two, then letting it gather digital dust... is that fair to say?

Does this not mean that in a few months new players to the game will have a hard time getting anywhere due to everyone being capped? Or can initial levelling be independent of your personal performance.

I assumed there would be matchmaking which would try to put you in a game with people of a similar level/rank or whatever it is called.

They did the lvl matchmaking, but fairly.... I don't care about getting killed :)

Like in any shooter, you always are last aiming to get higher and higher on the scoreboard :)

i've decided that brink is suitably good enough for me to tell you all to buy it :5:

no idea how much longetivity it's gonna have, but without going into masses of detail - it's definately a worthy purchase. so if you haven't already done so, go and take the plunge, cos it's actually pretty good

No. As far as i can tell for now the extra abilities (and weapon upgrades for that matter) don't make a big impact on the game, they can just give you a slight edge (usually in team situations, e.g. a 'nade' that can ress multiple people at the same time, being able to give a slightly higher hp/dmg buff, etc..). And on top of that all the good guns are available at level 1. Besides there's only 20 levels (i think. could be 25 as well) so it's not like it's gonna take ages to level, I'm at 18 now; got the game 2 days ago and I only played it after scrimming. -->

wat ?_?

Anyway, this game looks like it could be fun on a comp level (like a lifelong game of gpit<3 on tf2, with more emphasis on aim and less on teamwork, though not to the extent of *some* other games.) so I could be looking to do some mixes, anyone here interested?

ohh, L.A Noire looked sweet as hell, gotta get me that :5:

so, brink: nothing like as good as the hype said it would be, and the alot of the online stuff is still bugged, and some aspects (parkour, for instance) needs a good bit of spit and polish - but it's still a lot of fun, and that's just the single player stuff. my advice is that if you're not sure atm, wait for it to drop in price a bit and for some patches to come out, then it'll be well worth it.

L.A. Noire is sweet! really enjoying it so far, the environments aren't very pretty, but the characters and animation is where it is at!

Yeah thats my plan scatter, ill get brink when it drops to half price because I have been watching trailers and dev videos for a long time for it, so I am interested!

Greetings Internets,

This is a story all about how we made Bethesda Softworks, ZeniMax Media, and everything they own, our bitch for life.

As you should know, The Lulz Boat stores vast amounts of booty; much of this booty we don't release as it's simply too shiny and/or delicious. As of late, certain inferior sailing boats have discovered flaws in Brink (brinkthegame.com), thinking themselves exciting and new.

Too late. The Lulz Boat controls this ocean, chumps.

Some weeks ago, we smashed into Brink with our heavy artillery Lulz Cannons and decided to switch to ninja mode. From our LFI entry point, we acquired command execution via local file inclusion of enemy fleet Apache vessel. We then found that the HTTPD had SSH auth keys, which let our ship SSH into other servers. See where this is going?

We then switched to root ammunition rounds. And we rooted... and rooted... and rooted...

After mapping their internal network and thoroughly pillaging all of their servers, we grabbed all their source code and database passwords, which we proceeded to shift silently back to our storage deck.

Please find enclosed everything we took, excluding one thing - 200,000+ Brink users. We actually like this company and would like for them to speed up the production of Skyrim, so we'll give them one less thing to worry about. You're welcome!
