Baal you cock nosed goon, if he'd said they HAD been banned for two months he would have said

'They've been banned for two months now'

What he says leads me to believe, through HIS phrasing, that they have been banned for a period of time rather than permenantly.

Don't tell me how to speak English, I was speaking English when you were still sucking on your Daddies teet! :4

However, McMoist, don't expect a guy from Slovakia to have mastered all intricacies of the English language to the same degree as you. ^^
That's where common sense and a proper understanding of the word "permanent" in the "length" column of the publicly available banlist might come in handy. ;-)

P.S. A thumbs-up on the expression "cock nosed goon", though - I like it, albeit it should be hyphenated, oh Lord of English (not to be confused with that nutjob Richard Garriott a.k.a. Lord British) . :-D

Well the word "permanent" is why I questioned it. If I thought Lacop meant they'd been banned since two months ago I wouldn't have said anything.

And of course I don't expect him to have mastered it, it was a joke. Of course I've mastered English, it's my native tongue. It's my only tongue.

Well... apart from a tiny bit of French, but who the fuck wants to speak that?

Frankly if I could speak German, or Dutch or Polish as well as you guys speak English I'd be proud of myself cause for the most part it is brilliant. Unfortunately I was raised in an educational system that doesn't think it's important to speak any language other than English. They only introduce other languages when we're about 12, 13. And by then you don't care about anything. Well, at least I didn't.

Well - my writing is far better than my speaking because in my opinion the only way to acquire a good accent is to live in the respective language's native country. I wish I could live for e.g. one year in Scotland because then I might start to speak with that sexy Scottish accent. ^^

They are right (for the most part) which reminds me of an English joke:

Lord Fiddlebottom went on a trip to Kenya.
After he returned his servants asked him: "My Lord, how was your voyage?"
"Very nice, very nice indeed."
"And Kenya itself? Didn't your Lordship have any troubles with the language?"
"No, but the natives did."

If you want to learn a foreign language then don't rely on schools to teach it to you - I for example learned English mostly by playing video games and watching films (I have always been a curious guy, even when I was young - I knew how to use an encyclopedia by the age of 4 or 5 - so I looked up all the words I didn't understand in dictionaries ^^).

Stop, it's bragging time:

I speak Polish, German (on an almost native level), English, French (not very well) and I taught myself some Latin. Hence by knowing one Slavic, two Germanic and two Italic languages I possess the perfect tools to understand most Indo-European languages but for some strange exceptions to a certain degree.
But then my being interested in languages and language in general might be the reason why I ended up studying applied linguistics; after 5 years realized that I was only being taught translation and regretted my choice... I could've studied computer linguistics in Germany - three universities were ready to accept me but I stayed because of my stupid girlfriend I'm not even involved with anymore. La donna è mobile... remember that, guys, when you're about to make any decisions important to your life solely because of a relationship... :-\

And because of people like YOU, I want to speak many languages as well :). So far it´s Czech (who would guess that?), English (on a pretty good level, but still your knowledge of vocabulary exceeds mine by... miles!), German (well six years at grammar school, took part in a nice competition Jugend Debattiert International, but that´s pretty much it), now learning Japanese - that´s very difficult, the nice part is I am doing it in Sapporo, Japan (2 month´s course)...

Oh and I´m taking up Russian next year and I only have minor problems understanding Slovak (how surprising, when it´s almost the same as Czech)... I could understand a bit Polish, I guess... But the writing is rather complicated. In the future I would like to learn Spanish...

Fun fact: "To search, look for something" in Polish is a bad word in Czech :))

Szukać?

To us Czech sounds really funny - as if somebody was talking in diminutives all the time. ^^

However, in most cases we understand each other pretty well, if we're talking slowly. I used to pick up a hot Czech waitress in Funny money land in Polish while she knew only Czech. ^^

Lord British  I wanna have a new Ultima part! :D

@Langs:
So I speak German (Really!) and based on studying computer science I'm quite used to English. That's it... the regular situation here in Germany if you don't take French in school. Me didn't... therefore I've got my Latinum... but this is quite dead. ;)

@Scottish:
Visiting my girlfriend's brother last year who left Germany for living in Scottland I came to the conclusion that (at least) the people in the Highlands don't speak anything which could be in relation to English. ;)

Yeah, they speak Gaelic. They're totally in the minority though, and it's not like they don't speak English too. I'd be surprised if I found anybody who spoke Gaelic and only Gaelic.

They have some channels on TV. Watching an episode of anything is like listening to somebody hock a loogie for half an hour...

Languages, eh?

Well, Swedish and Finnish obviously (the former being my native tongue, I don't speak Finnish quite as good as Swedish), English (I like to think that my English is decent) and a little German. (very little)

Knowing Swedish also gives me a pretty good understanding of Norwegian and Danish, but the latter can be quite hard depending on how fast they talk.

As for my Swedish; it's not the same Swedish that you'll hear in Sweden, it's actually a dialect that you won't hear anywhere else (as far as I know).
Even Swedish-speaking people in Finland can't understand what I'm saying if they're not from around here. If that's the case I'll use what is mostly the same Swedish as the Swedes. (The differences being pronunciation and some words that only exist here.)

Oh my, look at all those words.

Yeah... it was in a little sports bar/restaurant and I wanted to order some food. He asked me something and while I was trying to understand him, he recognized my problem and asked me in English again. ;)

I speak Dutch (or Flemmish if you will), English (Practically nailed the English and Irish accents, but working on it), French, a spot of German and taking up Spanish in school next year. I also know Latin and am planning to learn a language that not a lot of 'westeners' speak like Arabic, Russian (probably going to take Russian), Chinese (well, Kantonese or Mandarin), or Japanese.

I always prefer being able to speak a language well over joining the Grammar-Jugend and becoming a Grammar Nazi. (No offense Lim-Dul  )

And to stay on topic: Rick Astley was just a one hit wonder (I presume). And I'm never really fond of them.
