Yo - I played it a bit now... WITHOUT HUMAN OPPONENTS. Ha, ha! :-D
I'm too afraid to go into a match without somebody helping me, e.g. one of you guys. ^^

Indeed HoN washed out the bitter taste of Section 8. It's very well made with only balance issues and bugs to be worked out as in any given beta - unlike in Section 8 which left me with the impression that half the game would need to be redone to actually make me buy it. ;-)

Having said that, it's not rally a title that's up my alley. I haven't played DotA and this game is all about skill/ability and click-micromanagement... I don't see myself mastering these things again since I long stopped playing RTS-es (or rather RTTs (real time tactics) which most games turned into nowadays), so I wouldn't ever be able to become truly good in HoN.

However, I'm looking forward to some gameplay sessions. :-D
For now I'd like to use Night Hound/Swiftblade or Blood Hunter - I tested them, read the leveling/item guides etc. ^^

Hard to describe - there was a massive discussion on the HoN forums where people argued how it should be classified. It's basically Warcraft III (for which the original Defense of the Ancients was designed) but played with no base-building and each player controlling a single hero. Instead of strategy you concentrate (even) more on tactics and your individual hero's skills and items. There are automatically spawning armies for both sides, locked in a stalemate battle unless the heroes influence it and the final goal is to lead them to destroy the enemy's base (plus kill the other team's heroes a lot ;-).

Couldn't find any exact dates but I guess it will be running "till it's done". It's certainly more than a couple of days since it's been active for weeks now with thousands of players online at the same time.
Ah - and if you like the game and don't feel like buying it later you can pretty much go back directly to Defense of the Ancients provided you have Warcraft III + Frozen Throne and can stand the pro-elitist community surrounding it. ;-)

In Warcaft 3 this gerne is called Aeon of Strife or AoS, after the first map with this name that featured heroes with skills and computer controlled armies in Starcraft. It is not a general description like MMORPG, RTS and TBS, but defines quite well what you have to except and has a nice ring to it.
Yeah well I play these maps quite frequently (except DotA). :o

A new genre has been invented to place DotA and the likes in now, MOBA.
