What the hell does overrated mean anyway? Seriously, it's so annoying how eveybody (various forums, friends, yeah everybody) keeps saying that this or that band (yes, including Radiohead ;) ) is overrated but never care enough to explain wtf that means.

with general public?
with kids?
overrated by being called brilliant?

Radiohead aren't overrated. :| Definiton - Anything that is given too much credit and hype. I'd say the most over rated song ever is Sweet Child of Mine. It's always like number 1 in top 10 guitar riffs. :?

Not liking something does not qualify it as bad or overrated. You just have to look at the whole picture. I've never seen a guitar riff top with Sweet Child O' Mine as no 1 but if there was one called Most Popular Guitar Riffs it would definetly deserve it's no 1 spot. Well, either that or Stairway to heaven. All the riffs however just get liked based on how catchy they are, so if you're looking for somehting more articulate in expression just search for guitar solos. Afraid though you'll come across Slash in any of those tops also.

Anyway, my point was that people just love throwing words on music they don't like, calling it overrated, comercial or anything else but stating the truth "Hey man, I don't digg that, it's not for my tastes". I never called Radiohead overrated, on the contrary, considering their approach I can never stop being surpsied as to how they are so popular when their music is so subtile.

I'd love however if anyone would point out a post-grunge band that's better than Foo Fighters. Not for the sake of the argument but because I don't want to miss out on some awesome music just because the band's a bit unknown.

well, a lot of people are going around saying they're an excellent band when (in my opinion at least) they just aren't. by 'a lot of people' I'm talking about... well, just the listening public, I guess. it's the sheer number of these people that means the band is overrated.

that's kind of garbled, and I think Repel might be closer, but I would say that a band overly popular for how good I judge their music to be (and clearly I are teh pr0 judge D:) overrated.

edit: above was made before Sebas's next post, if that changed anything.
