There is nothing to figure out, 3 unknowns means you can't find out anything from one equation, you either need to give me 2 more equations which link p,q and r so I can simultaneously solve them or you need to tell me to make a certain letter the subject of the formula or give me the values of two of the letters so that I can find the exact value of one of the letters ![]() I can rearrange that anyway you want me to ^^ Maths-peen +1 |

okay if forgot the question: What is Q? (the value of Q) and all the letters will be + (not -)![]() I can rearrange that anyway you want me to ^^ Maths-peen +1 ![]() |

Everything in C3 and C4 is practically algebra... q=(19/25)(p+1)-(1/r) |

I will be extremely unfair, but I challenge you to do this Mr.Green! (Relatively easy question from C3) ![]() More than likely you haven't learnt how to do any of it, so no, I'm not being serious :3 |

Post subject: | Re: Mr.green |
I said what Q is, if there are 3 unknowns in one equation and that equation is the only thing given, then it is impossible to solve but I arranged it to 'q=' because thats the only way to get the exact value of q (although that value is still dependant on 2 other variables). C3 and C4 is core 3 and core 4, just AS/A level maths modules. |

Because maths is too general, the core's are pure maths, the m's are mechanics, the s's are statistics and the FP's are further pure ![]() |

Post subject: | Re: Mr.green |
okay but i got Q to be 3 i did like this: ![]() but just looking at it i could figure out that P must be 1...and so you remove P/1 from both sides of the eqaution...the rest i have forgotten but i remember that R was =6 ![]() |

Post subject: | Re: Mr.green |
oh you meant like that... i thought you meant that once re-arranged to q the letters couldn't be a -, which was fine because they didn't end up like that anyway. How do you know that p must be 1? could it not be any fraction? since then q could actually be a fraction, and also r could be, so you actually get p being almost any number and q and r adjusting their values accordingly. Or did it say they had to be integer values? It would have been nice to have been told all the facts ![]() What I mean is that p could be 24/19, and if the other numbers ended up being a fraction; 1/(q+(1/r)), so then r=1 and q=18, so thats a solution of that equation because you would get 24/19+1/19=25/19. So if you mean find q by making up other variables then yeah, you can do it. If the you had told me that the variables must all be positive and integers, then it would have been easy enough to find q. The fact that they could be fractions meant there were hundreds of solutions. |

all that was said was that p, q and r was + and a whole number ![]() |
