Rebellions response to the essential ban of AVP in Australia still makes me chuckle. Good to see it is actually getting a release there though. |

Awesome... I wish spy was more like the predator... mmmm.... :] Well in reality I just wish the spy could climb walls and ceilings, like the aliens, and then drop down on the unsuspecting foe. Just a distant and slightly overpowered dream though :( |

Oh my god. That looks terrible. Very poor texturing throughout and the the levels look incredibly small and fiddly. The poly count on the tree near the start was appalling - looks like something out of Unreal Eng 2! Graphics aside (hampered by the Fisher Price 360, no doubt) the gameplay mechanics on the predator look awful. Are gamers so lazy and incompetent now that they need a targeting system for jumping? Good lord, that is just abominable! Also wtf is the purpose of the "distract" function? Nothing like cannon and were the preds not powerful enough already? Final complaint would have to be model animation. Both the marines and the xenos looked terrible, as if half their frames were missing. The marines upper bodies never moved making it look as if they were moon walking and the xenos looked like hey were modelled on cats, rather then the actual Alien. One and only good thing I have to say about that was the realisation of an actualised First Person View. Being able to see your body/legs/feet is a very good thing. That alone is going to account for nothing in comparison to everything else I saw however. What a shame. |

Good to see you can talk about games on that level howard ![]() "Very poor texturing throughout and the the levels look incredibly small and fiddly." this part of the level is in a huge swamp - and i stress part of this level. Might be worth watching the 720p videos if you want to accurately analyse texture detail. The predator targeting system is designed so people can play as the predator without being utterly shit the minute they try, you would literally throw the game out if you couldn't master being able to jump from tall tree to tall tree, if you had to do it yourself, the amount of times you would miss or fall off would counter act the enjoyment of the action. Now the player can start the game and already be a bad ass young blood, and spend the time hunting and killing rather than falling off the same thin branch,... fair enough if it was big cubes or a rock face then id appreciate it if it was more like crysis or even the scout for examples sake... plus you are right about the 360, games nowadays have to be really simple for console users, The distraction mode is used to break AI NPC's up, otherwise they will shoot you, kind of like hitman where you through a coin to move the AI about. It's from the predator films too, it's used to freak out and disorientate enemies. I am a PC gamer and the PC graphics look pretty cool to me, even the DX11 stuff. Character models are fine as well (see the video below). I am inclined to agree about some of the animation work and its knock on effect on the character, but that's more specifically down to animation tweening in the engine that they are fixing, some of the kill moves are really cool thou. *Didn't edit this, just captured all the footage for it. |

That video looked rather boring because it wasnt exactly fast and exciting gameplay with these rather slow jumps, and the permanent heat vision on/off cloak on/off was rather irritating. But with other people playing it may make a different impression? |

Post subject: | Re: [AvP] Alien v Predator |
well the predator stalks prey and that snipes enemies with the cannon or goes in close and gets himself a skull, thats who the character is, how you play it is up to you, but the levels are designed so you can be stealthy and cloak, the vision modes (there are more) allow you to see enemies that normally maybe to far away or are camouflaged, so imagine you are in the alien hive, and you have alien vision, those aliens in the wall dont stand a chance etc.. really all depends on if you like the films, or original games. |

A few facts about the game don't know if they are true or not maybe Balls can comfirm ![]() * It's not Games for Windows Live, it's just Games for Windows, which means it's just for windows. You won't need to use that crappy Games for Windows Live crap. * There is regenerating health, but it works differently for each species. Predators have the most health, Marines come second, and the Aliens have the least health. * It's not banned in Australia, it will be released with no alterations whatsoever. * Melee attacks work on a Rock-Paper-Scissors system, heavy attack breaks block, fast attack interrupts heavy attack, etc. * Aliens will be able to wall-crawl classic AVP style. * Aliens can sprint really fast. * Aliens will still be able to pounce on enemies. * Alien Life Cycle has been reported to be different, but not absent. * Aliens regenerate health very slowly, but can get health boosts from biting peoples heads off. * Aliens can harvest civilians and scientists in SP, yet to be confirmed in MP, not sure what the purpose is. * Aliens acid blood does do damage. * Marines won't be able to jump very high or far, apparently to prevent bunnyhopping. * Marines cannot crouch (Not sure if a bad thing, will wait for demo). * Marines can only carry a pistol and two other weapons. * Marines weapons (besides the pistol) include, Pulse Rifle (a given), Smart Gun (also a given), Flamethrower (another given), Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, maybe more. * Marines might be able to set up sentry guns in MP, yet to be confirmed * Marines life bar is divided into three, it only regenerates up to the current segment, Marines have to use stimpacks (which are limited) to regain full health. * Predators Smart Discs (now called Battle Discs) aren't homing, they work like the RPG in HL2, following the laser. * Predators Plasma cannon isn't homing, once it locks on target it fires in a straight line, can be dodged. * Predators jumping ability is more free-form than you think (besides having to hold the "aim" button). * Predators will have the ability to capture and reproduce sound to distract enemies. * Predators supposedly can only carry wristblades and three other weapons. * Predators weapons (besides the wristblades) include, Spear, Battle Discs, Shoulder mounted Plasma Cannon/Caster and Energy Mines. * Predators life bar is divided into two, works in much the same way as Marines except instead of stimpacks you use the Predators first aid stabby things. * Sub-classes are absent within each species. Replaced with different skins. * Alien Skins include, Number 6 Alien (Hunters Edition, and pre-orders on various sites Only), Grid Alien, Runner/Drone, Praetorian, Warrior. * Marine Skins include, A guy called Sgt Kaneko who looks a lot like Doomguy (Hunters Edition, and pre-orders on various sites Only). * Predator Skins indclude, Some weird looking Predator with a mask that looks like an Aliens face (Hunters Edition, and pre-orders on various sites only), Aztec Masked Predator, Wolf, Celtic (both from AVP movies). * There will apparently be a demo for us to try before we buy, supposedly coming out this coming week. * Dedicated servers are confirmed for PC, consoles get a matchmaking system. * Game is focused around multiplayer. * Multiplayer modes include; 1. Deathmatch - Typical Deathmatch insanity. 2. Team Deathmatch - Each species in their respective teams. 3. Mixed Team Deathmatch - Each team has mixed species. 4. Infestation - A squad of Marines vs one Alien, Each Marine that gets killed by the Alien, becomes an Alien. 5. Co op Survival - Up to four Marines vs endless waves of increasingly tougher Aliens 6. Hunt - A squad of Marines vs one Predator, the Marine that kills the Predator becomes the Predator. 7. Predator hunt - A group of Predators vs one Alien, The Predator that kills the Alien becomes the Alien (Please note that this may not be accurate). Yes i for one i'm going to buy it ![]() |

I kinda liked the subclasses, will be missing them slightly.. but what's meant with "Aliens will be able to wall-crawl classic AVP style"? I only played the second AvP, so I wouldn't know if they changed anything from the first to the second. |

Erk...not a site I read anymore for various reasons but a friend pointed me to this article to take a look at the feedback for the AVP demo. Thing to keep in mind here is that all the people giving feedback on it where frothing at the mouth in anticipation of AVP not 5 minutes ago... http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/02 ... -tomorrow/ I mean seriously? No crouch? ...Seriously?! ![]() |

Fair comment but *none* of the classes has a crouch and that is just ludicrous! I'm also getting the sneaking suspicion that there actually wont be a single player demo for this. And people honestly wonder why I pirate games...yeesh. |

Granted and rather my point. How the games industry got so arrogant that it believes we will just purchase its products without testing them first is beyond me. Ah well, as long as there are torrents we PC users can at least try-before-we-buy. Shame it has come to this though ![]() |
