Two tips I give you.

1: Less graphics, it's just too much. (at least for my taste)
Try not to use to much details, f.ex. replace the news header and the menu-buttons with something simpler. Text-only is no shame, maybe
align it to the black area of the btw. nice background ;) Then you'll see that the white fading areas on the right and left gets useless so they
can be removed. I can't visualize it so I don't know if my suggestions will improve it, but the message is, try experimenting with less graphics
:)

2: You need to think about how the page would look nice on a widescreen monitor.

on widescreen it will look like the current page :P
like the grey empty area on the sides, maybe a nice background there

text only is shame i think aswell

It will probably be Sunday or Monday that i will post my design, and then it will only be done for 1/4 i think.
Maybe i can give a little preview of the logo and a small piece of the header tonight, i will see :).
I don't like half work so i'm gonna design something that is close to finishing but still easy to change some parts after some community feedback.

Actually I'm now busy with it, logo is as good as finished and I've started already with some layout sketches. The problem that i have now is to get some game stuff in it in some sort of way.

Question to the techteam!!

For what resolution is this site going to be?
I've created already something so it be can even on extreem high resolutions.
Question is: How much is the max width of the page it self?

This is a snapshot revealing the logo and a little part of the website.
Making this snapshot made me see that some things are probably not optimal for usability.
Gonna test it out to see how it looks like with some changes i have in mind.

I really like that Unity. The colour scheme and the design seem to suit the aesthetic of Team Fortress more closely than Quattro's. I know what you're going to say, Special Attack is a multi-gaming site, I know this. It's just, at this point in time TF2 is the game we're most closely associated with so maybe we should keep that flow going non?

And even without that aspect in mind, it's still a classy design. It doesn't look cluttered, it has a nice playful functional design and I think it suits Special Attack down to the ground. Really nice work :D

EDIT:- Plus the idea of revamping the SpA logo has been doing the rounds for a while now but nobody has really managed to get the design just right. I think with this one though Unity has hit the nail on the head.

Yes well, i had to take some colours i could work with. Normally a company has their own house/company-style (logo, colors etc.), i now just scanned the homepage we now have and saw that orange and blue are used for headers. So those 2 became the colors i was going to work with.

I dont like the * between the SP and the A tbh.
But otherwise it looks awesome, cant wait to see the finished one.
Btw, will we get a new website made by someone we paid for, or will we make it ourselves?
Because I think we paid someone to do it in the past, the first screenshot showed someone with a sword.

The star can be removed, that ain't a problem. What would you suggest, write it just SPA?

As far as i know that deal is off with that guy, so we are making our own website again.

I mean it doesnt have to be just a blank [SpA], we can experiment with it, but I would suggest adding nothing between the mainletters. But maybe in front of the S and behind the A. You could stick to the olive twigs, or try something else.

True, but we are on a point that taste is comming in to play and this is going to be hard. I will create 2 or 3 logos with a different kind of SpA format.

Very nice Unity! This is exactly the type of design I love. Nothing complicated, little of graphics, ...
This could be the design that will be used :)

I like the lines in background and menu but you should remove them in the main part. That should be just solid, one color for better readability.

Those thicker lines aren't in the main part, the main part is one color (it's gonna be white). Just wait and see

We will, with great anticipation. =)

Also, finally a SpA logo that doesn't suck. ^^
