Don't you know one of the fundamental rule of horror films? The well-trained but inexperienced soldier/policeman/whoever always dies first in the absence of a black guy (unless the black dude IS the soldier/policeman/whoever - then his chances of survival go into negative numbers). Followed by the well-trained AND experienced soldier/policeman/whoever.

The only way to survive a zombie apocalypse is being a moderately hot (not TOO hot - these die too) girl, preferably NOT blond. You should most definitely never show your tits either, since this is also a guaranteed road to hell. Having no experience with guns whatsoever helps a lot too.
