The reason for this is twofold: 1. SFIV has retard-tastic Shoryuken shortcuts because apparently this was one of the most difficult motions to perform by n00bs and Capcom wanted to make SF more accessible - the shortcut is df, df instead of the usual zig-zag f, d, df and makes certain charge characters perform some other attacks instead of the move (especially the Dictator - Neurosis, one of Japan's leading Bison players did this TWICE in a recent match ;-). 2. The timing on the Ultra is slightly different than on normal special moves. In normal special moves you press the attack button precisely at the end of the motion while with the Ultra you should press it slightly AFTER performing the required motion. Having said that, charge character combos of the b(2), f, b, f kind are best performed with db (the pro way of holding charges), f, b, UF - this makes sure you're not hitting any of the "down" diagonals. After teaching myself to do the combos that way it fires off pretty much each and every time. When it comes to Guile's Ultra I saw a good tutorial on Youtube which I sadly can't find anymore. In it two methods of inputting the motion were shown. ^^ Update: I found it! |

I bought it today and played a bit with Vega. Im kinda stuck on the fourth easy combo challenge: Jump HK MK L Rolling Crystal Flash The problem is not executing the combo, but Dan blocking my last move. I guess I need to execute the last move earlier, but I dont know how. Help me. ![]() edit: see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5QA5H0pxuw @2:37 |

Yeah... I recognized that... Shoryuken are much easier than in SFII. Had always some problems back on SNES. ![]() [SpA]Lim-Dul wrote:

I'll try to look for this.[SpA]Lim-Dul wrote:

I'm doing charges with db since I got SFII on my SNES... so that's not the problem, but I'll try it with uf.[SpA]Lim-Dul wrote:

Yeah, you have to execute it faster for him not to block the follow-up. What I do is practice the move away from the target until I can get a fluent combo animation (hits are linked). After that go to the target and start practicing on it. I'm saying this because while after some training you woun't have to, at first you need to look at the animation to figure out the timing (ie. hit the next one right before the one before finishes).![]() I've had some really really fun games with Awesome today. \o/ |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
You can't practice combos away from the target. :-D The reason for this: moves cancel into each other only when they're blocked or when they hit. Example - as Ken or Ryu I usually use cr.MK as my poke attack BUT I'm not simply doing a cr.MK - I do a cr.MK and a QCF + P at the same time. Now - when my cr.MK is NOT in range nothing spectacular will happen except for the cr.MK alone - when it connects or is blocked, however, there will be a combo-ed fireball coming right after it for an easy 2-hit combo. |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
The longer ones yeah, but the basic 2-3hit combos can. At least I can easily see the difference in my timing when doing them right or when I'm leaving a fraction of a second before the next move. (when it'll just be a sequence, not a combo) That's what I did with Rose's jump h.kick-crouch m.kick-light soul spire. xD I practiced it away from the target until I got the timing right on it. It somehow made it easier for me to move to connecting the hits on the target after. ![]() ![]() |

Nope, even 2-3 hit combos won't work away from your target. You can of course practice the timing however you like but the moves won't come out correctly without a target and hence I don't know how you can even be sure that you got a combo right when the differences between a successful combo and a failed one can be miniscule. My tip as to how to practice everything. Training mode with: Auto Block No Stun Attack Data On Input On SC Gauge Infinite Revenge Meter Infinite Find out which of your attacks can be canceled e.g. from here: http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2009/fe ... fighter-4/ And take the combos taught in each character's trials as the basis but substitute attacks with the most damaging cancelable ones. |

LOLZORD. ^^ Don't see many Cammys or Roses because they're not there in the Japanese Arcade release. Anyways - I don't think this is actually an infinite loop by Cammy - El Fuerte is worse in that regard - he has an infinite combo, which is difficult to pull off, BUT if you do, you can repeated until the enemy is stunned -> Focus Attack stun them, repeat. Done. ^^ Yeah, it's not easy to even start the combo, let alone repeat it enough times but it's still funny. ^^ |

Got myself an "evaluation copy" because of all the excitement. I find the game insanely hard with my keyboard, should it be this hard to play without a controller or is it just my lack of experience with any fighting games? |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
I think its really hard to play with the keyboard, especially moves where you have to go from down to up. Thats why im trying to get a PS2 controller from my sister to play. |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
I can't say I'm having any issues with the keyboard but as I said before, I have years of playing beat'em up games with it. ![]() Btw, should combo dmg be variable? For example I'm doing Rose's simple Soul Spark->Super and it does between 370 and 380 dmg without anything different happening between the tries. Does range matter or anything else I should be looking for? Others like the jump h.p->h.p->heavy reflect do the same dmg always. If I add the Super to it at the end it does variable dmg again. :< And is there any kind of combo that Rose's Ultra can be linked with?! |

Post subject: | Re: Street Fighter IV |
Perhaps when you're training you get the "training dummy" to less than 50% health. Then damage scaling starts to kick in. Capcom figured that it would make for more dramatic fights if people were fighting with less health left even though it would be more than actually shown. ;-) Also - damage in combos scales. Everything beyond the second hit gets damage reduction. I recall one match where a Sagat player lost because he decided to link his Ultra not from FADC TIger Uppercut directly but do another f.HK in between - that made all the difference because the last and most powerful hit in the Ultra was scaled to much less damage and didn't finish his enemy off... You should also look if you're absolutely certain that you're doing the same moves in the combo. E.g. it often happens to me that I do a cr.MP instead of a standing MP with Sagat into Uppercut and the cr.MP is 10 points weaker. The difference in the combo is just one input of timing (whether I execute the MP while pressing f or d/df). As to Rose's Ultra Set-Up - I presume some kind of Focus Attack Dash Canceled move that would juggle an enemy should work. |

Yeah, that one works. ^_^Man i love the fact that both her super and her ultra are so hard to be punished. I can just try them each round without fear of getting destroyed after a block. Though honda's headslam sucks. :< Anyway, I'm really happy I managed to get some juggling supers in today. \o/ |

He's one annoying fuck, especially with his Teleport to Piledriver-thingie. Also, I think the AI version of Seth is indeed slightly "cheated" since he appears to have much more health than the version that's available to players, which incidentally has the lowest health ever (700).Anyways - here's a little tutorial how to beat Seth: |
