Downloaded it and tried alien and predator and got rather owned, partially because I didn't check up the controls until afterward :P I'm no fan of games that got weapons lying around on the map ready to pick up, it reminds me too much of quake and whatnot. Granted, it was death match, so what to expect? Would be nice to be able to set up your initial loadout when you've unlocked the weapons if that's how the xp thingie works. Or I'll just stay out of the death matches and put my money on that the other game modes are a bit more refined. Further testing required though, I'm up for some games this evening if anyone's interested then. |

Yeah the demo doesnt do the game much justice at all, much prefer the SP mode. |

The marine SP campaign in AvP2 was truly awesome, the fear is almost tangible. God I love that stuff. But while a good SP game is nice once in a while the longevity of a game is, according to me at least, defined by it's multiplayer modes, since I do not find entertainment in grinding through the same storyline over and over again. Problem is to be able to try it out before I buy it, but I suppose I have to wait for some decent reviews and gameplay videos before I can make an informed decision. |

Ignoring all the issue with graphics, interface andcontrols, this game is still dead to me as it has been designed for talentless, 360 owning children. They have focussed a huge amount of time making the three species balanced so that they can play deathmatch while using a joypad. This is so staggeringly counter-intuitive and ignorant of good gaming design that I could spit! The entire point is that the spcies are NOT balanced, but that they all have strengths and weaknesses. If a pred gets close to you, you are toast, same as if you stand out in the open waiting to get sniped. Aliens are supposed to be incredibly strong and agile with deadly close comabt attacks but relatively weak and very vulnerable to the fire from marines or the preds. All Rebellion has done here is make this "game" child-friendly. Remove any pretence at skill (focus jumping - I simply cannot stop laughing at that! ![]() No matter how many of the obvious and glaring bugs are fixed, no matter how much better looking this thing is in DX10 and no matter how in-depth, well designed and beautifully realised the single-player content is, this game is still utterly worthless. I cannot and will not support the console-isation of yet another IP, especially by a developer that I used to have a lot of respect for. |

Howard, I find myself intrigued to ask what games you actually play and enjoy, since you seem to disagree with what seems as the most of us here. Or it could be your ability to voice your opinion that has given me this impression :P No offense meant, I respect your opinion and I'm a bit sad to discover that I agree with you regarding the consolification (not just this game, but in general). But I'm truly interested to know what kind of games has made you rise the bar to such a height :) |

the other mp game modes are alot more fun, team deathmatch is great cause you can get a squad of marines together, or double team targets with two aliens. Infestation mode is very tense and pred hunt does make u extremely paranoid. i respect howard alot and his opinions, and i agree with most of what he has to say. ![]() |

I play most things on PC (don't own either current-gen consoles), but that is a vague answer. Lemme list what I have installed currently:

I didn't expect such an extensive reply, but I do not complain :p I've played a few of the titles you listed, and heard about the majority of them, all good stuff, and a few that I've never heard anything about. Butcher bay was truly an awesome game in it's own. Add to that my love for stealth and bad ass cliche characters that Riddick is, and the awesomeness is doubled :D Mass Effect is a very good game, and the worth to play through in order to enjoy the second title even more, even though I think ME2 is better than the first anyway. FO3 was another good game I enjoyed. Only played it once though :p STALKER: SOC crashes my comp for some reason, would like to play it though; love post-apocalyptic settings. Oh, and Max Payne was awesome, good storytelling there, and action. Avatar the game seems surprisingly good, might try it out sometime. You're taste for games are deemed tasty, and the value of your opinions are truly asserted :) [SpA]Howard wrote: trying to be a writer after all
Oh? What kind of writer? Let me know if you're gonna write any good sci-fi novel :O

for those put off by the matchmaking issues (full release allows dedicated servers) i heard today that a patch for the demo is on its way to hopefully sort the match making. no idea why they didnt beta test this. |

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the only good game that's ever been made. They should have just stopped making games there and then, cause frankly, everything since has been a massive disappointment. Honestly, the whole industry should just have turned around and said; 'Yeah... We're never gonna top that. Time we just stopped making games. We'll become Cobblers or something' But no, they continued on regardless, cause they're greedy bastards. And my video gaming life has been one massive let down after another ever since. Not to mention, I can't find a decent pair of bloody shoes, cause they're all off making Mass Effect 2 and what have you! |

im not a big fan of using the 360 as your target for design, surely the harder platform requires them most thought, which upset me about a few things in wm2. |
