I'm pretty sure it was Mini who posted the Mumford and Sons originally. Completely inconsequential piece of information, I'm sure you'll agree, but I just felt like addressing it regardless.
Despite it being the dead of night I have swiftly corrected my error. Thanks to you for pointing that out good sir.
Now where have I left my monocle and that glass of brandy . . .

edit: it was Minimoose. Credit where credit is due.

But yeah, pretty nice music but a bit . . . I don't know. It seems to me that lately (i.e. about a year ago) there's been this sort of trend in 'popular' music (oh dear, do I sound like an elitist music prick or what) of melancholy, wintry, rural sounds. I'm not saying that I don't like it but for some reason something deep inside tells me that I shouldn't like it.
You mean folk.

UK folk has come back in a big way mostly due to Marcus Mumfords girlfriend Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn and Jay Jay Pistolet. The folk scene here also seems to be very similar to the folk scene in the US in the 60's everyone knows everyone, has worked with everyone and in a couple of case seems to be trying to fuck everyone.

Laura Marling's second album was the best album of last year and she's the best thing to have come out of the new folk scene at only 20 she's already competing with Joni Mitchell, Sam Beam and Leonard Cohen as a lyricist... she's apparently hoping to put out another this year and I for one can't wait.

I recomend staying away from this lot if you don't want more current UK folk:
Laura Marling, Johnny Flynn, Jay Jay Pistolet, Slow Club, Noah and the Whale, Alessi's Ark, Emmy the Great, Mumford & Sons, Peggy Sue and Bombay Bicycle Club

Yeah, UK folk or popfolk, that was the term I was looking for.
When I think of folk I immediately think of this, which is a horrible generalisation, I know. It's 'Oirish'.

I love this kind of music though. It makes me wanna be a Hobbit at a Hobbit party under the Party tree drinking beer out of wooden mugs.
I've spent too much time in Irish pubs. . .

I liked that song by The Republic Tigers. It kind of reminds of this band i like, The Shins. They're semi popular, but really really good.

Sorry for the horribly creepy third video, the song is good though. If you liked these another good one is Australia. I've just listened to it so many damn times it's a bit old for me. I can realy listen to any of their music and like it.

My favourite Nina Simone, it's the re-release in 1987 where the video was Directed by Peter Lord co-founder of Aardman Animations.

I also loved the video they were involved in for Peter Gabrielle, directed by Stephen Johnson.

Nina Simone is awesome yeah, I like Peter Gabriel a lot as well, listened a lot to him 10 years back. I really like both his genesis and solo period a lot

Talking about Nina Simone and her obvious double posts in this topic, I'll double post one of the best remixes ever again :P

I really love this remix :4

Just another awesome one

By the way balls, my remark about smacking some jazz in you guys instead of smacking some blues in you guys was because I just watched the whole season 1 of Tremé

It's a lot of americanised hollywood bullcrap drama, but hey, how much crap we watch now isn't from America? But, I liked Treme, it doesn't mask the fact the government of America doesn't care about anything but themselves, there's absolutely nice drama and comedy in that show, and a freaking shit load of it is just strictly, about music. And some awesome music I may add! :4

Reminded me to post some of this. I have her campfire album where she just got her walkman out and recorded herself playing at a campfire at a truck stop, so all is accoustic and very awesome  You can hear the crickets on the background and trucks pulling up and stuff, campfire shizzling

I need to give Bad Religion a propper listen, when it comes to punk I'm alittle skeptical towards post 80's american stuff, but I shouldn't be, I know theres some great stuff to be found.

don't be, they had some great stuff too!

The sad fact of all this is that Bad Religion were founded in the 70's and had their first release in the year I was born...

I'd almost agree Junco, but then I think there's been little of worth from punk in general, globally, since the mid 80's anyway. Post Punk and Post Hardcore took over and actually developed the sound, Emo went in a different direction by listening to Moss Icon's discography. It got hard to distinguish what punk was for a while but the Casualties and Rancid nailed it back to a look and a sound in the 90's, while better bands with real ideas got over looked. Tragically the influence punk had on other genres was its life line in the 90's Math Rock, Grunge, Post Rock, Mathcore and Metalcore and even Slowcore came from the punk movement.
