I'll be honest, I havn't bought the game cause im cheap but, i kinda have an idea for an SMP map. not rlly a whole map but kind of an arena to battle monsters. I just have 1 question and if the answers no then forget about it. Can you guys spawn monster spawners (all types) in SMP?

We can spawn monsters but lim doesn't like that. If it is in a controlled environment then maybe...
The only monster spawning blocks spawn pigs.(Please feel free to rage at my possible mistake)

Though I thoroughly like this idea. Maybe set it up this way: You are given a choice of weapons like a stick or bone etc and you have to use your skill and determination to slay the monsters we throw at you. If you manage to survive it all or not die past the set amount of lives(if we set any), then you will get a reward!

Exactly what i was thinking. I was gunna put a giant chest full of Swords, Arrows, and Bows. No armor allowed. it could be a 1 players survival or a 2 players "who can last longer".

Or you could use mob spawning ICs from pailstone. :ugly: We've had arenas before.

like i said. i dont have smp :P. so i have absolutly NO idea what ur talking about. the arena isnt rlly an arena. its a model of WMD from Black Ops.

o and yeah it will be. like any call of duty maps the players will be trapped in a medium sized area with no possible escape ,other than if this does make it to SMP, the doors where people will enter the arena.

Did you disabled the 'drops' from those mobs?
Otherwise it would be a nice place to farm. :)

or we could make a darkroom monster spawner and using redstone, control doors to open it when the player is ready

I'll have to make a super special listener for that inter. :P Could get laggy when all the mobs start burning in the sun.

i put that in mind too. theres a giant ceiling over the map so they cant burn and so my eyes dont fry.

That would be incredibly awesome. Unfortunately, I think its going to be more along the lines of recording the entity ID of all mobs it creates and listening for their death, then stopping the drop. I have to look into what happens hook-wise when mobs unload.

What is wrong with the monsters dropping loot? I think its also a nice little reward for the participants. Just dont allow people inside until a certain time of day (in real life) so they cant constantly farm for the items.

Well, more people wanna use the mobspawner.
If there is no loot, there is less problem to use it. As you cant farm them.

supop+ should still be able to place them with loot.

Like scrathy said, what I was thinking about it locking the area where the monsters spawn from with iron doors connected to a switch by redstone. the room where the switch is the start the map is locked by a password protected door and only certain people know the password so only certain people can rlly turn on the arena.

ATM its in Veteran24. If you wanna see it you cant miss it. It's in one of the corners but right now its covered by a giant hollow cuboid. just go inside it and its there.

You could make them drop slimeballs or some other item that does nothing, if you want to keep the economy/Not-Cheating-Ness in tact.
