Quote: Markus Persson, developer of popular indie title Minecraft, has revealed that the "full version" of the game will be released on November 11 this year.
From the website Gamasutra.com
On his 'Notch' blog, Persson notes, "It's a bit tricky to really do a release for Minecraft as we keep updating it all the time. For one, the version we deem as the 'full version' won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago, and we’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the Beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards." He continues, "The plan is to be open with this and try to get people to cheer us on as much as possible, but to be open with the fact that the game won’t change much at the actual release day. (It’s more a progress up until that point)." Persson explains that the Mojang team is aware of a number of other game releases on the 11/11/11 date, including the next Elder Scrolls title Skyrim, and hence has opted for the unofficial Minecraft tagline "us too." "It’s the same date as a few other games and movies," he says, "and the one I’m the most excited about is Skyrim, so that will be a nice reward for me if we actually manage to hit that date!" Earlier in the week, it was revealed that Minecraft has now brought in more than $33 million in revenue from 1.8 million paying customers, despite the fact that the game is still only in beta form. |

Sounds cool, I'm probably going to get Skyrim, Bethesda has a record for rolling out good games. |

If they're using the same engine that was used in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (I know that Bethesda had nothing to do with developing New Vegas but it did use their engine)...I'm going to be giving it a miss.

No, they've done an entirely new engine. The graphics appear to be much improved. |

The only problem with Skyrim is that it sounds like they may lose a lot of the things that made The Elder Scrolls the... well... Elder Scrolls? For instance, they're continuing with the leveling, if what I heard is correct, and also using a system that made me think of the LoTR movie action games [admittedly I only saw a glance/teaser, but it looks a lot like it] (not that they were bad, but I'd expect more depth from a successor to Morrowind and even Oblivion, since it basically looked to me like the magic system overhaul would remove all my favorite things). |

What Looks Like Will Happen Route: 1. Introduce new content into Minecraft. 2. Ignore the bugs of content that was already introduced in Minecraft. 3. Release Minecraft with above two criteria as the "full version". 4. ????? 5. Profit! Expansion Route: 1. Introduce new content into Minecraft. 2. Ignore the bugs of content that was already introduced into Minecraft. 3. So it's finished.... But not finished? And if it's going to be "basically the same as it was last week", why is it going to take until November to release it? On another note: $33,000,000 and he can't keep a stable minecraft.net... |

Ah, but I don't use Twitter! So I don't complain about it.

But worth does not necessarily equal income. Some of it is the brand name and use, rather than just the actual money raked in. For instance, Minecraft could be worth something like 10 times its profits just because it's a very common (though not yet ubiquitous) name, and it has a ton of users.

Minecraft is like a Ford vehicle. Many people like it, but it's not reliable. |
