Post subject:  1st time on TF2
Hello TF side of SpA,

I finally found my old steam acc info and found out I had TF2 added a long time ago (used to share the acc with a friend so he probably got the game). I've never played it but I'll give it a try. Just got to finish this long ass download and check how to get on the SpA server 1st lol

Anyways, I hope to have some fun with you all o/

Is there anything I should know off? Like starters tips, etc. :P

lol thanks. I get the feeling this game might be a bit harder than the common FPS's or at least when I look at ppl's stats and see that most of them are neg o.O'

JMPanty, we have plenty of guides on the site, but they are quite old now, so you tube might be a better reference.
The latest update for TF2 also came with a training simulator and off-line mode.

You may also want to validate your spa forum account when in TF2 so you can monitor your progress stats etc.

sm_validate "forum username" "forum password"

paste that into console (obviously changing it to your details - don't do this in game chat!!!)

use the ` button to turn on the console or if that doesn't work you need to switch console on in advance options.

I don't remember where the thread is, but somewhere there is like a spa menu setup by ditch so you can join the servers really easily.

I know that is not helpful haha :D but ditch reads all my posts so he will reply with the link ^^

also in game you can type !spapoints when in game to access the spapoints menu, this will allow you to purchase spray permits, reserve slots, etc.

That's probably what's happening to me, I should just use the console too lol I'll try it later today.

@PMB, that's what I did already thus having the menus on top of each other for some reason xD

Edit: Btw, any idea why my status under my posts keeps loading?

I just started playing about a week ago, and I am AWFUL at most common FPS games, but this one has been incredibly easy for me to pick up quickly. It's a lot of fun, whether you're good at it or not :)

TF2 is probably the easiest FPS out there to pick up, mainly because the need for precise aiming isn't as high (for some classes more than for others, but still) and because you can't die from 1 shot across the map (excluding Sniper).

Tips for rookies from everyones favourite rookie.

  • When Rocket jumping, jump first then fire.

    Don't freak out when you're on fire with most your health, afterburns a joke.

    Snipers have better aim than you.

    Don't try to kill the shiny people.

    Keep your back to the wall when possible, or Matude will get you :wink:

    There's nothing good about finding a crate.

    The TF2 wiki is your friend.

    Your whole team is a spy.

I don't think your stats are working properly because: This user has not yet set up their Steam Community profile.
So that's what you need to do :P

For advice I'd say learn the maps, really well.
You will also notice the difficulty level on our server is pretty high too, might be worth trying a few other servers to get the hang of things.
Or wait till the minecrafters are on.... :mrgreen:

Yeah the servers pretty tough, but you'll do really well on other servers if you regular on SpA, as you'll be over estimating everybody.

I agreed, the no crits enabled server does attract a lot more players from the competitive side of tf2 so the skill level is a lot higher (to some extent) there will always be some Viking throwing bodies around in the middle of a CP... but as these guys said, the minute you go to your run of the mill server, it will be a cake walk in comparison after playing on ours. But worth jumping on a server to warm up... but i say fuck that, get on ours, and jump in the deep end with two fingers in the air! YEAH!

We'll see that later then, I'm used to FPS's (been playing CF for 2 years now apart from other FPS's), but the game has an odd feel to it, maybe because it's so cartoony.

@Don, mm probably, I'll check it now :P

Edit: nope, either there's some option I've to check or it's just a random bug, but my steam community acc is properly done it seems (yay whiskers' my 1st friend xD - add [JM]Panty)

Wait... wut? You trying to tell me the SpA servers are tough??? Mind you, I've only ever played on the SpA servers ever since I bought the OrangeBox and only recently have I ventured over to a different server.... hmm maybe that explains certain things.

What was it I told everyone the other day? I was dominated by four people but still on top? Hmmmmmmmmm

Generally speaking, the people on the SpA servers have much higher average skill than the people on most other servers, from what I can tell at least.

Random crits aren't even helpful, you'll run out ready to kill and maim, and then a stray scatter shot will knock off half your health.
