Hmm, maybe not Illiterate (22)

hello guys
my problem is i cant use my console command,
if i press ` i get nothing.
i tried to fix it, but it was pointsless.
@ options > Keyboard > Advance > i already tick those things on but i cant use it.
Help :(?

Are you trying to get your console to come up at the title screen?

In that case, you need to right click Team Fortress 2 in your Steam library list, go to Properties. In the tab 'General', click 'Set Launch Options'. Then type in -console and the console should automatically pop up when you start up the game.

Yeah, if you've got an AZERTY (French) keyboard, it's the ³² button you need to press, right under Esc.

yea,but i only get the screen if i launch the game,
it doesnt works if i press `

als ik in game ga kan ik mn console niet gebruiken met het knopje `

Bind the console to another key.

The thing below makes the console appear the moment you launch tf2 (no need for keybind)
find your Games list. Right click Team Fortress 2 and click Properties.
Now click the General tab and click Set Launch options
Add "-console"
Then click OK and Close
The next time you start Team Fortress 2 the console should automatically be shown. If you close it then it won't reappear before you start the game again.

And go "Options > Keyboard > advanced and tick on the console box...i guess :p

I have the problem that the TF2 menu stays in US layout although all runs in German. It's just the menu, gaming itself runs with the German one. So I cannot access the console in the menu with the default '^' key.

At least assiging a different key should do the trick? You've checked the advanced options in TF2? There's one option to activate the console.

Can you change the key bind for the console in the normal tf2 options? On my laptop and I don't have tf2 installed so here's how to do it if it isn't in the normal options.

In your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\USERNAME\team fortress 2\tf\cfg folder there is a file called config.cfg, open that up with notepad and use ctrl+f to find "toggleconsole".

It should say bind "`" "toggleconsole", just change the ` to whatever key you want and use that key to open console.

If you have a USA keyboard and you have enabled the console in the game, try pressing <shift+2> or <shift + `> or <shift + '> as those are the 3 places that tilde can live. If those don't work you are doing something wrong :lol:

by failed you mean you pressed the button you set and nothing happened? also can you double check you ticked the Developer Console Box in keyboard, advanced as i cant think why it wouldn't be working.

\team fortress 2\tf\cfg

Open/create autoexec.cfg (just to eliminate the user config being overwritten)

Enter:
Quote:
bind j "kill"
bind k "toggleconsole"
(The first line is because I don't trust you really followed the advice in this thread, or used some obscure key to bind your console to)

Start tf, join a game


Press J. Does your character die?
Press K. Does the console pop up?

Never close the console.
If you need it go into the menu by pressing Esc.
