Not a fanboy, only once had an ipod... but still:

He might been just a guy, but he was great thinker! (like many more)

R.I.P. Steve Jobs

Never liked the company, it's policies, it's products and in general detest the "community"/fanbase but the man was a visionary and an excellent speaker who could (and did) sell you shit in a box while you drooled over his shoes in joy. Shame to see him go and while Apple won't rot to it's core now thats he's gone, I would be very surprised if the company won't take a massive hit in the coming years.

So yeah R.I.P. for one of the biggest man in consumer electronics.

hate ipod, hate apple, hate the people who follow the product like it was a cult..

but, Steve Jobs was a perfectionist, and really did drive the best out of his staff to get what he wanted to achieve out of them, most of the time we lack leaders like that and end up with shit which is designed via committee, for that I respect him.

I've never bought Apple products since I find they're overpriced but I did enjoy every single movie Pixar ever made. And think this is one hell of a speech:

All in all, a man who started in a garage, followed his dream with intense determination and never did give up on it. That is truly to be admired and is a story worth telling.

It's a shame he died while there was still so much drive in him.

Rest in peace.

Yeah... I'm no Apple user, but Jobs was a really great man. He really kicked the market in the ass with the iPhone. Sad to see him pass away at that age. :(

Guess I'm the only Apple person here, from iphone 4 to 27" imac and ipods, I absolutely love them all and think they are vastly superior to their competitors, for which I also gladly pay extra. It's the feeling like I'm using equipment from the future that always gets me.

As a creative person who's job is to design for practical reasons, I find this to be my favorite quote from him:

Design is not what it looks like. Design is how it works. - Steve Jobs

This here is one hell of a speech. And not a speech by a man who pretended to "Make the world better" and started one of the most detestable companies in PC business.

Birdie, there's a lot of people I work with who would say and bring arguments for the statement that Apple products have made their life a lot easier (at work, not home). And they are not completely off, not when Apple products have been having by far and away the best UI for a very long time. Sure, for a geeky you or geeky me that may not matter, but for Bob who only uses the computer as tool to get some work done and does not care one bit about IT intricacies, Apple products are a godsend.

While the high prices and exclusive attitude can definitely make Apple a detestable company (which is why, again, you or me don't buy their products) you have to look at it in perspective. Overall, access to information is making this world a better place.

Sure Steve Jobs was a good public speaker, but in saying that, so was Hitler (before someone kicks off about that statement, they should go learn their history and I'm not condoning Nazism at all or making a straight comparison between the two people) but I see and appreciate what Birdie is getting at, that kid actually said something! Steve Jobs might have changed the way we use information and technology, but did he change the world? arguably yes, but more honestly no, he got people to buy tablet technology that already existed and got people excited about HDMI cables

I'm not saying that is a bad thing or a bash at commercialism or capitalism; but im pretty sure that kid actually changed at least someone's perception of the world that day; which is no easy task sometimes, some apple products have a horrible problem of people think its opening up social networks, where in fact in can do the opposite also (sat in a pub with 3 friends on their iPhones is fucking dull).

sorry to go off topic

it is a shame he died, again i hate apple, but I like dedicated people who work hard and always try to achieve something.

EDIT: sorry I had to edit that, the point was all lost when i wrote that first time, but I've perked up a bit now

Well I removed my post temporarily so I could work on my wording a bit more offline. I've reworked my opinion I was trying to express as I said in my place holder message.

I dont argue that the Apple products are bad. In fact their hardware is superb. I argue about that Apple has a nearly perfect public image. But their products are thefts as well (like every product from every company), totally overpriced, capitalism in perfection.
Maybe an Ipad makes the life of some western rich white educated person easier. But what price do others pay for it? I doubt that all the Chinese working in "sweat shops" for them dont have a better life yet.
Apple is not a company for many, its a blind obsession, almost a religion. But all Apple is, is another giant capitalistic octopus. Like Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc.

Its sad that people die of cancer at 56. Its not sad that another tyrant died.

Look on the bright side, Apple probably had a life insurance policy on him and are now cashing in on his death. I mean if walmart has life insurance policies on cashiers, I bet apple had one on him.

This in not an argument for today Birdie, I'm afraid. I'd love to see equality throughout the world but this will not happen in the foreseeable future and if we look back in our history, it probably never will.

As for those Chinese people working in sweat shops, I'm willing to bet at least some of them are happy they have a job. Nokia just closed a big factory in Romania and moved it to China: I'm pretty sure all of the 2200 workers here who've just lost their jobs wished they had another "plantation" nearby where they could get one back. The only thing that sucks more than a crappy job is not having one at all.

With this argument you only can plant your food in your own garden and make your clothes on your own. :/

I'm not really a fan of Apple but I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs didn't go around talking about how he "improved the world". If other people feel like their products improved their quality of life, so what? What does that have to do with homophobia or inequality?

The speech against homophobia was just a demonstration of a good speech, the contents arent connected to this topic. Tbh the language barrier hinders me to explain my thoughts better :)
