Steam servers are down after possible hacker attack :(

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/07/steam ... er-attack/

Apparently only the forums are affected but just incase anyone was having trouble logging in, it may be because of them being allegedly hacked

Actually, that happened yesterday. But, yeah, if your Forums account is the same as your Steam one, change your password just to be sure. :)

I thought the steam forum being hacked was nothing, seeing as it's just vbulletin, not Valve's software, but...

Yeah, one poor guy got his steam account hacked big time! He was a trusted buyer and now all of his backpack has been sold and the hacker has also managed to get other people to sell their stuff to him/her too. Thousands of dollars lost :(

For fucks sake! Like it would fucking matter that they have not yet broken the decryption.

Might as well ask the bank to issue new cards and get rid of the old ones.

The more they hack the better. People will finally learn not to use passwords multiple times, companies will (hopefully) learn to better encrypt and secure.

No harm done.

I'm not worried about my Steam account. It's my credit card I'm worried about. I can not easily change it and it's the only way I am getting any kind of money out of work.

don't worry about your CC. CC's are perfectly covered against fraud. If you notice a transaction which isn't yours, one call to the CC company and the money get's booked back!

Yes, but I will still have to change my cc card, which takes over a month, so for that time I'll have to live off savings, savings which I won't have if they get access to the current card.

Or next time use paypal so you don't have to give your CC details away too much.

The people that may get targeted are the ones that use the same password for the forums and on steam. I learnt the hard way and when I got my steam account hacked I have never used the same password with anything.

It still might be an idea to change your steam password if you want but that's up to you.

Paypal asks for ridiculous money in return for their services so I'd rather not. :P And it's not like they can't get hacked.

Anyway, did a bit more digging on this and we might just be okay in the end.
