Hey.

About 5 months ago my laptop motherboard broke so it's practically useless until I find a place to fit a new motherboard. I was wondering if it was safe to take the hard drive from my Dell XPS M1530:

and put it in my Acer Aspire SA90 dinosaur:

If it is safe, I'm sure there's a youtube video on how to swap them over.

Thanks!

Do you want to swap it with the intend of using the same install on that drive? Or will you just wipe the drive and swap it over?

Mostly laptops have the HDD quite accessible at the back with a 1 screw thingy you can remove.

I want to take the hard drive out of my laptop and put it in my desktop PC so that I can use the things stored on the laptop hard drive with the PC.

Oh I see, well, in that case, open up your laptop, remove the harddrive, and see what kind of connectors it has. See if this fits in your PC, if not, you'll need to buy some converters for the connections (power and sata/ide)

i bought a Hard-disk docking station for that purpose - working perfect.

Be aware that Windows might be a bit bitchy if there's another Windows (in terms of just its files on the disk) around. Be sure to get your data off the disk quick.
