Right now I'm trying to get my school to place me in German instead of Spanish. I know Spanish is a more common language in the US than German is, but German just seems SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING! Besides, both sides of my family are from Germany. My mom's parents moved to the US to flee from the Nazis, and my dads parents moved to the US because they just didn't want to live in a Nazi Germany.
So because of my family's nationality, I want to learn SOMETHING about it.
In total I'm part Hungarian, Polish, Swedish, and German

As a long time failed student of Spanish there's no way I could credibly argue against your decision but I will say what I say to everyone who says they're learning Chinese.
