A Facepunch member, DevinWatson, went poking around within the Steamworks files and found a reference to Left 4 Dead 3. The appID for the game was found to be 235480, which according to SteamDB has been around for quite some time now but has not been updated in about a month.

His poking around seems to have not gone unnoticed as his Steam account was banned for violating the Steam Terms of Service.

Keep in mind that just because Left 4 Dead 3 is mentioned does not mean a Left 4 Dead 3 is in the works. It is entirely possible that Valve was merely testing some things out and used that name. Besides, we all know Valve can't publicly count to 3, so this is more than likely nothing
:ugly:

Well this certainly isn't the first time I've heard about the Source 2 (which will probably just be named Source when it's realeased) and it does make sense that they'd make a third Left 4 Dead at some stage, or at least plan to.

Still waiting on someone to 'find' code for Half-Life 3... This is interesting though. Most of the time it's small references like this in code that can hint at something big. Look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Treyarch made the mistake of putting the name of their second DLC in the code of their website (Found here in image form) that was later actually released. So maybe this does say something... I mean, Valve isn't perfect, they do slip up. They seemed pretty quick to lay the ban hammer down on the person that first reported it.

Either way, thanks for sharing, really interesting.
