It's a real long shot but do we have enough NFL-watching people here to run a fantasy league? I know that half of you are European and the other half don't like sport, but I thought I'd ask just in case :26

I like the NFL! But I haven't the faintest about how the whole fantasy football thing works, though . . .

Me neither to be honest. Well, a vague understanding but I was just kind of planning on picking up as I went along.

I'm guessing that most people here aren't that interested in the first place but don't let a lack of knowledge or whatever put you off, I've got no idea what I'm doing either :mrgreen:

I think here would be a good place to start. It's free, and if we set up a custom league we can have the draft at decent hours for us Europeans (since most of the NFL regulated ones have their drafts in the evening for America, they take place between 1 and 4 am for Europe).

League password is 'SpA'

There was the option for a live draft but because of time zone differences + organisational issues I've set it to an offline draft. But if this is a bad idea/we can make a live draft work then I'm happy to set up a new league with live draft enabled. My bad. A) I can change the type of draft and B) we all need to be around at the same time to do it anyway. I'm gonna arbitrarily suggest Thursday 21:00 GMT (22:00 SpA time), how does that sound?

All other settings are at default for now cos I dunno what I'm doing :mrgreen:

Edit: we've got room for 1 more room for loads of people but need at least 1 more, get in here!

Aw yeah, totally excited for this! Signed up and my team name is Always Runny in Philadelphia. Thursday draft is fine for me, but doesn't the season start that day too? I guess that's fine as long as the draft's done before the games start.

I think we only have a minute and a half to make each pick so it shouldn't take *that* long.

MrCat is in so we're up to 6 people now :5: If anyone else wants to join then you'll have to bring someone with you as we need an even number of people in the league.

So tomorrow at 7pm EST (Midnight GMT, an hour and a half before the game starts) is looking workable so far. Tscuz I haven't heard from, I'm gonna assume it's ok for you Orange if you're staying up to watch the game anyway. If it doesn't work for you guys then we'll either use autodrafts (which is pretty lame) or we'll just have to organise it later and miss the first game/week (which is also lame, but it's my fault cos I'm a noob at this D:)

I've set the draft order as a snake system: the order of the first 6 picks are decided randomly 30 minutes before we start; then the guy with the 6th pick gets the 7th pick, and then we go back in reverse order, and so on.

Midnight draft will be a 1 am draft for me and I've got work tomorrow so wasn't really planning on staying up for the game. But I'm fine with drafting then. I usually hit the hay at 2 am anyway.

AS a side note: I don't know if any of you browse the /r/nfl subreddit, but some of the stuff on there is just gold :mrgreen: imgur link to 'best of /r/nfl august'

So for some reason NFL.com isn't allowing us to do a live draft past 4pm EST. It allows us to do it at that time tomorrow, but not today. Derp.

So we'll still have the draft at the same time, it'll just be an offline draft - i.e we do it over mumble + a steam group chat and I'll upload the results once we're done. Same rules, and I've put all the extra info in the 'hidden' bit below.

Because we won't have a nice fancy draft board I recommend that you get a decent idea of who you're going to pick beforehand if you haven't already, just so that we get it done sometime this century :ugly:

Considering the tight timeframe, you should also keep in mind that you still need to register all out draft picks after we're done and before the game starts. I'm not sure how long before the game starts the NFL requires you to register the picks, though.

Hmm, true. I think that as long as I'm entering the information into the form as we go alone the uploading part won't take too long, and if the site doesn't allow us to submit tonight then at least it's done and I can submit tomorrow (or at the beginning of week 2 if that's fairer).

American Football, fantasy league. Basically we pick our favourite players from across all of the NFL for our fantasy team and get points depending on how well they do in their games (for example, 6 points if one of our guys scores a touchdown, 2 points for a field goal, etc). It's a nerdy way for nerdy NFL fans to show their nerdiness :ugly:
