hui! this sounds awesome <3...I could ask my bro if he could do it :P...but the chance that he'll do it, is slim(he is proud owner of an IT-shop). they design sites, as well... :S...the problem is the "time", cause he's quite busy...do you already have a imagination of how the site could look like? If not :P I could at least do that <3 <3

Yes we have a good imagenation what the website should look like. Its based off http://www.callofduty.com, alltho totally differant, but it should have the same level of profesionallity.

yey that looks quite good.
But If got a question anyway:
would a dark-theme fit to a (almost) TF2 community?

It should not be bound to one specific game, as we have plans to host other things aswell in the near future. It will be indeed a dark-theme website.

we're not a tf2 community. We are a gaming community who at this moment has most of it's players playing tf2, but we'll be hosting other games as well. As soon as we'll have the new servers and as soon as there are games we like that are hostable, we'll be hosting other games. We already have a cod4 server and css server running at this moment, but we missed the boat for those I guess.
We could pay your brother money for it, maybe that'll help him getting to design some stuff for us. But the time is an issue here, it must not take longer as 2 months to finish the whole site, preferrably 1 month.
Could your brother produce a site like COD and can he make it good looking? We're not talking about someone who is good in hobbying and can make a running stick figure in flash and that's it, right?
If your brother can produce a cod like design in flash, would you be so kind to ask him?

I'll do my best. I will ask him if he can manage it, within time and all that stuff....but don't think that he'll do it for free :o...I know him, too well...

Post subject:  Re: Flash designer with time

already told you, we can pay money for it. Depends on how much he will be designing, but we got a maximum for 400 dollar for a full working graph design with graph edits and such, so , just check it with him and let us know!

honestly, full-flash sites suck!

they're not accessible and you'll never get a decent search engine ranking with them!
using flash for some effects is ok, but all the important parts should be in the XHTML file.

javascript is much better suited for displaying menus, because the bots can still read links normally.

Post subject:  Re: Flash designer with time

well, we want just the design to be in flash, the rest will be filled otherwise.

eeeh, no!
JS is good for site enhancement, like AJAX utilities, pre validation of forms and making page better usable if user has javasript enabled. Not for displaying menus...

CSS can do the tricks of rollovers just fine....

As for the flash though fancy moving Flash headers can be very nice.

Not if you want effects like on the cod site. A simple :hover is nothing compared to scriptaculous or mootools.

May be, but your site should not depend on JS to look fancy.
Most of the graphical JS are not widely supported.
And for the average user, JS should not be a 'must' to properly see and browse the site.
JS should always be used to enhance experience of the page, not the looks and implementations of AJAX is a good example of this, and also the Photo album overlays you sometimes see. If somebody has JS of, you still see fotos normally and you get additional 'experience' when JS is on, or if your browser actually supports it.

100% agreed........... Flash can be nice if used gently, but a whole site in flash... brrrr.... ;)

You can do so much with HTML/CSS and a little bit of JS these days

Post subject:  Re: Flash designer with time

hrrrr....I asked my bro now, about the site.
He said that he is quite busy for the next few weeks/months, because of the CeBit. He wouldn't be able to manage it within time. other then that he will go to GB, next month, for 2 weeks.
Sry :(

That's not true. Just look at the mootools site and you'll learn that they support every major browser (more then 99% of the browser market).
DoubleJ wrote:

If the goal is to have a site with 'fancy moving sutff' then I think this can be considered 'enhancing the experience'.

One other think to consider: this is a gaming website. Most people that are going to be visiting the site are gamers. So you can expect an higher than average number of users with up-to-date webbrowsers than in the general public.
Also, most gamers are not security neat-freaks that purposely disable javascript.

Bottom line: 100% of our target audience's browsers will support javascript. So any argument about compatibility is void.

I graduated from Commercial Institute, so I have the education for these type of things. What kind of stuff you have in mind, does it have to be completely interactive or an animated banner?
