If you want even better graphics for tf2 you can add these commands to your autoexec.cfg
Code:
r_threaded_client_shadow_manager 1
cl_threaded_bone_setup 1
cl_threaded_client_leaf_system 1
mat_picmip -10
mp_usehwmmodels 1
mp_usehwmvcds 1
mat_parallaxmap 1
r_lod 0
cl_detaildist 2400
cl_detailfade 1000
cl_ragdoll_fade_time 120
mp_decals 4096
r_propsmaxdist 2500
cl_phys_props_max 1200
source

What makes TF2 better than all other games in the same genre is the graphics. They are kept in a way, where it is easier to have fun playing. Also, with the graphics kept the way they are, everyone and their mother can run the game ;)

If you don't have one you create it  It's supposed to be in the cfg folder with the rest .cfg

Noxious7,

When you say rest.fg I assume you mean medic.cfg, heavy.cfg etc etc.

Do you have a file config.cfg there as well? Like FuckTastic I don't have an autoexec.cfg file, and when I created one and added some commands to it, it did nothing. All the binds created in console went into config.cfg as it happens (update rate, sm_admin, auto toggle etc etc). I'm thinking I can do the same with the ones listed below.

If don't have the file you have to create it.
That's the path: Steam\SteamApps\XXXXX\team fortress 2\tf\cfg\autoexec.cfg

I have these settings plus the admin command and works fine.

If I remember correctly the config.cfg is not a good place to add commands as it get rewritten by the game. autoexec.cfg does the job great.

Has someone tested the HQ settings yet? And even made a screeny for comparison? :)

Thanks for the screenies Noxious. How about the framerate? Does it cost many fps?

I think it's about the same at my PC
It surely costs some fps though. Just test what settings your pc can handle and decide which ones you want to enable

I dunno man, I used to run TF2 on a Athlon 1.8ghz with a GeForce 7300GT.

My ping was usually around 250 and it had nothing to do with my connection. It was truly unbearable, the only class I could play without completely losing the rag was Medic, mainly cause it was almost like a slideshow when there was a big battle going on. I just stood behind a wall and cursed out my shit heap machine.

Thank God I don't have that problem anymore. I suppose that's what happens when you don't have any desire to play the PC for years then suddently a game comes out that you have to play on PC. Ah well, I suppose I should be happy I bought it cause it spurred me on to buying a much needed new PC and I'm still loving the Team Fortress.

I tried this one, and I think, it actually looks worse. The textures are more crisp and sharp, but overall it looks kinda glitchy...I'll post a screenshot to show what I mean.

Post subject:  Re: High Quality TF2 settings

By the way - I don't think that setting mat_picmip to anything below -1 will produce any visible differences. Now that I got a bit into texture creation I know how the Source Engine handles textures. Basically, each texture has mipmaps that are simply smaller than the original size. So, if you have a 512x512 texture there are 256x256, 128x128 and so forth versions of it as well...

Setting "mat_picmip" higher than 0 tells the engine to load lower resolution mipmaps... If you set it to -1 I think all textures are simply loaded uncompressed... I may be wrong, however, and if that's true setting mat_picmip too low will affect only the largest textures, which are world textures you aren't paying any attention to anyway, and will SIGNIFICANTLY increase your load times (if not decrease performance without any immediate visual gain).

Thread necromacy!

So may someone who knows his stuff post me an autoexec which just does the following things:

The game should stay on the very highest option available through the options
I want NO Level of Detail at all. I hate it when rocks change their appearance and so on.
This includes smaller details on the maps which should be visible all time. Oh and the best textures please :)

This is the article you're looking for (I posted the site in several other topics):

I think you'll be much better off picking out the things you want to put into your autoexec yourself. =)

It's pretty much like that for me with a server more than 18 players when in a large battle though my ping is generally fine. :? I've kind of got used to it now as I've never had a top of the range computer anyway, I'd probably play worse if I had more than 30-40 FPS by now. :P
