Hey guys, I just saw yesterday after the great german soccer match that a bunch of you were playing already and gathered achievements (b0se had already nine of them!). So... how are the changes? What's the alt fire like? How are the new weapons? And one thing I was wondering about from the update notes: Quote: Hadouken taunt now kills people it hits
It just says: "... kills people ..." So... is this an i n s t a n t k i l l??? Does it instant kill a heavy? ![]() |

I think the medic's bonesaw taunt should temporarily deafen opponents then O; how does the pyro taunt even work though? |

Please do - 118kills:12 deaths (147pts, 31 kill streak, medic happy) for one group of matches - a few of which were due to people trying to insta kill me "Be at top of the score board with only killing people with your taunt in a team of at least 6 players." ![]() ![]() The alt-tab waft of air was interesting - bounced me around a lot - and was used tactically very well 2-3 times. The Alt fire of the flamethrower is cool but not very useful. Sure you can separate a medic from his healing mate and send rockets back, but I don't think it's better than the backburner. Now the pyro can have more health than a soldier ![]() Not to mention the more damage a soldier suffers from his own rockets ![]() Only 8/10 achievements ![]() ![]() |

Flare gun it's cool but useless. It does little damage, it has big reload time, the flare flies slow and it's hard to hit someone. So at mid range shotgun is a lot better. I got the backburner and it's pretty cool. I got behind a medic+heavy and killed them in 1 sec both ![]() |

Meh, tbh i'm getting turned off more and more by these new weapons. Valve is to obsessed with crits for my liking Seriously, soon everyone will have methods to crit 24/7. I really am starting to dislike the game. |

Well since half the opposing team is pyro it makes disguise selection a lot easier.

I think it was a bad idea to introduce both Backburner and combusion shot at the same time. I mean combusion should came up a lot earlier. Combusion is grate to balance somehow mad overpowered demos skillz but now as most ppl run with backburner I don't get much help from pyros defending my engi toys. Still, demo is my all time fav... a hope they won't ruin it with weapons pack ![]() ![]() |

I like to think that his taunt works because he's capable of gathering all his latent pyro energy into a single point then release it in a highly condensed yet devastating attack. When he hits you with that taunt, it's like being hit with a small nuke.how does the pyro taunt even work though? I got OMGWTFBBQ the first time I played with the new achievements available. I just ran up to a group of Medics and Heavies running around in Hydro and done the taunt with the hope that one of them would run into it. One of them did ![]() It was actually my third achievement now that I come to think of it, after those two that everybody gets in about 40 seconds of playing. |

Ok, now the combusion shot is just great. Started using it at random during game and it worked fantastic. I mean for soldiers and demos it is essential to have a good aim (except maybe lame demo-spamer ![]() ![]() Also it can be used to slow down ubered enemies while they charge for SGs. Those poor haxors with backburners flying around without doing any serious damage ![]() |

Post subject: | Re: Pyro changes - how are they? |
Pyro has become such a cheap class now. Seriously man, what was valve thinking when they gave the pyro 225 health + garantueed crits from behind? Thats like a mini heavy with 75 less health, fast run speed and even more insane damage. On top of that they slightly nerfed the Heavy's cone of fire so that is spreads out faster. So in effect the heavy has about the same range as the pyro, has slightly more health but is 20 times slower and can't get garantueed crits. Pyro on the other hand can run around circles and use the general confusion when he gets an uber to get some free crits in. I swear its absurd. Don't even get me started on the axethinguisher vs slower classes. Put him on fire pull out axe and you got a garantueed kill. I absolutely hate the new weapons and hope that SpA will host a classic server where new weapons will be turned off and the seize of the match will be made smaller. I personally can not see any skill in using these new super weapons which are miles better than the old ones (2 out of 3 anyhow). If a pyro even manages to get 1 second of flame on the back of a 125 health class with the backburner, you might as well drop everything you do and hope there is a medpack close by. You will simply burn to death. The weapons want to make me puke and I will probably keep scratching classes I play of my list till the last class gets its upgrade at which point I will most likely (if I haven't already) quit the game. |

Bah, it's not that bad. I agree with the +50 hp being a bit of overkill - perhaps they should've left the HPs as they were or increase them by 25 tops. I see the reasoning behind this, however. Since the Backburner-Pyro can't deflect rockets or nades they gave him one-indirect-hit worth of HP instead but I don't see why they couldn't have made it into the Backburner's weakness instead. I've been playing as Heavy quite a lot recently and I disagree with the theory that Pyros are "mini-Heavies". Even without a medic AND spin-up time a Heavy will defeat ANY Pyro coming at him - you're welcome to try it out on me. Of course if the Pyro catches the Heavy from behind, well, your fault... =) The crits from behind got nerfed (read: corrected) immensely recently and kick in VERY rarely if your target starts to dodge so they're not that much of an advantage. In fact I'm using the normal Flamethrower on almost all more open maps since proper use of the Compression Blast can really give you the edge - I mean, this makes the Pyro the ONLY class that can counter Ubers effectively - how many times have I pushed the poor medic out of Uber range to his buddy's demise - har, har. Or pushing people from ledges... Or deflecting rockets in tight corridors - high comedy. Since the Flamethrower is THE SHIT at close quarters anyway the only situation where the -50 hp hurt is when you're confronting other Pyros... Nowadays I'm pretty much using the standard Pyro equipment but for the Axtinguisher which is rarely needed anyway. Also - as to 125 hp classes being owned... Which ones do you mean? Snipers? They deserve it and in fact every other class owns them if it catches them off-guard. Engineers? If they build their sentries in the proper place there's NO WAY for a Pyro to own them without an uber and even in "improper" places you might stop the onslaught by switching to the shotgun instead of wrenching your sentry like a moron while the Pyro circle-strafes it. Not to mention that you can "soften up" Pyros with the pistol at distance if you seem them coming. Scouts? C'mon, I OWN Pyros with Scouts. It's so friggin' easy to stay out of their weapon range that it's ridiculous. Remember to use the pistol - there's a reason why I'm in place 2 when it comes to pistol kills on our servers. =) Yeah, I might get burned BUT for the scout there's ALWAYS a health-pack in range. I also can't think of a situation where the Pyro would catch a Scout from behind except if the Scout is a total noob - Scouts are supposed to run around as if they had the rabies so a Pyro shouldn't be able to focus fire on them from behind for more than like 1 critical. If you run into them head-first then, well, it's bad luck or a lack of skill... Ah - Spies. Don't get me started on them because they have ALWAYS been completely and utterly owned by Pyros - if they didn't kill them outright then the Pyro's teammates would do it. Too many people are trying to take out sentry-encampments with Spies which, apparently, is NOT what they are meant to do as I realized recently especially since Pyros love to hang around them. They excel at taking out UNATTENDED encampments, temporarily disabling guarded encampments for an uber-rush and backstabbing unprepared enemies and (good) Engineers are ALWAYS prepared. In fact if you penetrate a choke-point with a spy and "join" a recently spawned group of enemies running in one direction you can even own Pyros with no problems at all. =) |
