I have a slight problem , and no its not in the trouser department...

What it is , no matter what prog im using my comp has times where it just stops for a second or two... whether it be tf2 , mirc , winamp , PSCS3 , or solitaire... just stops and carries on , i have tried formatting , ad ware scanning , spyware scanning , virus scanning.. and i really dont know what it is....

My rig is as stands...

Amd Athlon64 3700 + Runnint at 2.32GHz (not the best i know)
4GB PC3200 DDR
Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB
Samsung spinpint 250GB HDD
Asus a8n-e mobo

When looking at task manager , normally around 32 tasks running , and cpu is at 0 - 2% load (at typing)

I really cannot see what the problem is, please help?

Does the history graph show any peaks in the CPU load?

Please post a screeny of your complete proccess list, and if possible screenshots of your msconfig -> 'startup' tab to start with.

Oh, first download and install AVG free (http://free.grisoft.com) and run a full system scan (it checks for virusses AND spyware)

My computer usually freezes for a second or lags really bad whenever my antivirus program (NOD32) is updating. I recommend you to first get rid of all antivirus programs to see if that solves it, else update all your drivers and run windows update.
If that doesn't help format your computer again and then add one application at a time to find out what's causing it. If none of this helps it's probably some hardware conflict/malfunction.

Kinda hopeless, but improving (118)

As you've already reformatted etc, I would assume that it could be a potential hardware problem, most likely memory or CPU related.

You say you have 4GB of RAM - can you try to just leave one stick of RAM and re-test?

Is your CPU overclocked at all? If so, set it all back to stock and re-test. Overclocking can cause very odd things if not done properly.

Also, what about temperatures? Is your case and CPU cool enough? Make sure its not overheating.

What PSU are you using ?

Could be that you are overloading the PSU and some hardware occasionally has to stop because of power failures.

Yes the Cpu is clocked , not massivly and all under 50*c on load , 600w psu so more than enough power for my setup... and as for the ram , nope that doesnt seem to be the problem either

Doesn't matter how massively it is overclocked. I have seen tiny overclocks cause problems.

At least try to run it at stock
