Hey folks, for the last days I have the problem that TF2 crashes once a day. Each time I'm getting healed, approaching an enemy, hearing sth. from the ingame voice chat and then TF2 hangs itself and mah complete system up. Total freeze after 2-3 sound stutterings... only hardreset is working. Has/Had anyone a similiar problem? Cheers Blacky ![]() |

Yep - similar symptoms after the Heavy update. There are reports of these crashes all over the net... I guess you have to live with them until Valve fixes their cause. ^^ |

This was fixed in the last update after the heavy update apparently. Maybe its not related, have you tried the usual? Remove Steam, Reinstall etc. |

No... I don't have the time to re-setup steam atm. Another issue concerning the heavies: After playing the first time after the update I entered pl_badwater and there were around 5 heavies in auto-fire standing near a dispenser... imho it could be that the Source engine has simply a problem with the sounds of the guns. Something stupid like not enough sound cache or whatever. At least I had a CTD there, but no total freeze. At the both freezes there weren't much heavies around. One freeze only a Soldier and at the other a bunch of ppl on a cp. Due to the fact that each time I got healed + voice + more sounds it's pointing again into a sound issue. |

I'm not sure if it's the same crashes I've been having. For me the game can freeze at any time and the sound just loops over and over again until I do a hard reset. I can't figure out what is causing it because it seems completely random, sometimes I get it once a day, sometimes not for a few days e.t.c. One thing I've tried now is to set my Hardware Sound Acceleration to basic, so far no crash but I'll have to test for at least a week or two before I can say it actually works. |

Yeah... that's exact what I' meaning.Happened yesterday twice again... each time I was playing Heavy. I'm pretty sure that is has something to do with that guy. |

I've done this as well and it hasn't crashed since then, but I'll have to wait and see because I also changed Hardware Sound Acceleration to basic and thought that fixed it but it did crash after about a week.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... latedLinks [SpA]Blackhawk wrote: Happened yesterday twice again... each time I was playing Heavy. I don't know, my crashes happened with and without heavies.

If I don't have to do this once a day it doesn't help.[SpA]Shizz wrote: ive had it a few times but not since i ran the DX update...
I already have the August 2008 version of DX. :/http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... latedLinks [SpA]Doomshine wrote: I don't know, my crashes happened with and without heavies.
And medic? Have you been healed as the game freezes?Perhaps the problem is Heavy => most of time shooting => lots of sound and the problem lies somewhere in the sound libs of the Source engine. As mentioned above... my first crash of this kind was entering Badwater with 5 heavies perma-shooting next to a dispenser. The problem is that you cannot say if it's "sound error => freeze" or "freeze => sound error", but there's a big topic according to the freezes in the Steam boards... so I hope that Valve will/can fix this sooner or later. |
