Actually i suggest u to buy a 9800gx2 or a gtx280 , Ati sux hard , those video cards are cheap and ridicoulous , i had 3 in my lifeand i had to change them each month , because they had graphical problems , one burnt and the other was crashing in games so :18 ati

ati is leading the market atm.
Mute is right on the temps of asus though. Their boards rock though, but you gotta be prepared to mod a bit to get those temps a bit down.

The temps of the 4800 series are perfectly fine ;)
Those cards are built to handle 100c ++

The reason that they are so hot is because ATi has chosen for silence, standard the fan runs at 20%

But there is a very simple solution for this:

1. Start up Catalyst Control Center and activate ATi overdrive.
2. Go to Profile > Profiles Manager and make a new profile, call it HD4870 or something like that.
3. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\<Profilename>.XML (XP) or C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\<Profilename>.XML (Vista) You need to have "Show hidden files and folders" enabled in mapoptions
4. Open the XML file (notepad or such) and change the following;

5. Open up Catalyst Control Center again and go to Profiles > Activate Profile > HD4870 (or whatever you called it)

I got it set at 35 as you can see and my HD4870 idles at 47c and it isnt even that loud :)
Try setting it at 100 for fun, your very own aeroplane next to you :D

So because ATi cards are cheap (wich is awesome) they suck?
The HD4870 beats the crap out of the GTX260 and comes close to the GTX280, and those cards were €200+ more expensive then the HD4870. The only way nVidia could compete was by lowering the prices because they couldnt keep up with the ATi cards :P

They may be built to take it, but they crash at everything above 80 if you go through the various benchmark reviews...

Also, ATi aren't winning - The only way they can make a faster card than nVidia is to put 2 cores together, and in some cases 2 ATi cores aren't even equal to 1 nVidia... Who's winning? ;)

PhysX. Picture acceleration. Web Images acceleration. The upcoming photoshop/nvidia crossover. The future is in nVidia's hands tbh.

When ATi do a GENUINELY better product, i'll buy it.

In the meantime can't you people stop being FANBOI's for christ sake... :P
Stop deciding that the company you that you own a product of, is the best. It doesn't work that way. I used to have loads of ATi cards as they were the performance leaders. Now nVidia are (single GPU), so I stick with that until it changes.

However, I DO agree that ATi have many more reliability problems. As I run the tech side of an independant PC shop, I've seen probably 4 times more faulty ATi cards than nVidia. For some reason the memory on ATi cards seems to go (about 25% of all sold) faulty after 18months or so... Not cool ;)
