http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/ http://www.google.com/chrome/ Works very nice so far, excellent with a built in taskmanager for each tab. Just great great stuff. Only downside is the horrendous (to me) blue skin. I'd want the option for a more neutral monochrome skin. |

Thanks for the info! BTW - I have a very different and nice looking theme. Are you using WinXP? |

Nah - it's WebKit based so it actually doesn't add anything to the plethora of rendering engines... As long as it sticks to the mainline and doesn't do anything crazy, that is. :-P |

Post subject: | Re: Google Chrome released |
No, I mean that the browser looks nice with the default Vista theme... As to the "browser wars" - IE has already been "toppled" because it uses a very shitty rendering engine with the upcoming IE 8 BARELY rendering the Acid2 test correctly... The only people using IE are either clueless, lazy or simply strongly used to IE's shittyness. ^^ It's true that Firefox has lost a lot of momentum recently - FF 3.0 should have been faster, lighter and whatnot but I still get the feeling that it has become a piece of bloatware not to mention that both Opera and WebKit based browsers manage to render Acid3 flawlessly with while FF is presumed to not be able to do so until the next major version... P.S. While I'm a big fan of Google I'm nevertheless increasingly concerned about the company POTENTIALLY controlling every aspect of our life... OK - all the data might be processed automatically BUT they have satellite images, mails, docs, communicators, desktop indexing, not to mention insight into people's searches and now even browsers... What will they do with all that power? |

FF + Apple's WebKit + GOOGLE(!!) = This browser. However i don't know about i will use it while it is still in beta.. But i'll deffo give it a shot.. (But DAMN!, how am i gonna miss my precius ff add-ons!) Editty: Tried it, the layout was better than i expected (It uses the colour which is your Vista visual theme defaults) However, it doesn't work with special coded sites like the new Facebook, Dailymotion etc. And i just can't live without my add-blocker. But whatever, this is just a beta. ![]() |

You believe that they won't change anything of the render engine? ^^![]() In addition you have all the non-render-aspects of a browser like cookie management and whatever. You need to know the browsers to give adequate support. |

Ahem.. Have you guys checked what Chrome's EULA says...? Quoted from TapTheHive: 11. Content license from you 11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services. 11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services. 11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this license shall permit Google to take these actions. 11.4 You confirm and warrant to Google that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the above license. http://tapthehive.com/discuss/This_Post ... EULA_Sucks EULA in Google: http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html That has to be illegal.. With that kind of license Im not gonna touch that even with a long stick... |

I don't really see any reason for changing from Firefox for now. I am so used to it, that I don't want to try yet another browser. Although I'm sure Chrome is very good. |

I found this an ugly little shit of a program and so uncustomisable as to be pointless for anyone that's interested in KNOWING anything about their PC/software. Is this made for Apple users by any chance? :S |

No, it may have something to do with the fact that it's version 0.2? ;-) I've been using Firefox since the early alpha builds and let me tell you - it wasn't any better in the beginning. ^^ |

Post subject: | Re: Google Chrome released |
I know, i remember the early alpha's aswell - tbh, i dont find it much better now - 3 is a poor imitation of ie7 with the option of better plugins, but its pretty much bloatware. Googles EULA is terrifying though, i uninstalled this as soon as I read that... I don't really mind the theory about how one browser renders a certain thing to another, as long as they view the pages i'm interested in OK. My level of geekness has dwindled a lot in the last few years, now I'm happy with a product that just works ![]() I'm also a bit perturbed as to firefox taking over the streaming websites with their sponsorship, it's a lot like MS during the first 3 or 4 iterations of IE, which thankfully has pretty much gone now. |

Post subject: | Re: Google Chrome released |
Yeah well. 3 isn't an imitation of IE - it's rather that IE became a poor imitation of FF at a certain point in time. Remember how long Microsoft resisted to even include tabs in their browser. ^^ I agree that Firefox became a pile of bloatware but it's the plugins that save it... I couldn't live without some of them. ^^ Give Chrome some time for plugins to pop up and we will have a small fast browser again - until it becomes bloatware and so on. ^^ BTW - the EULA is the same for ALL of Google's apps and services. I wonder why people are ringing the alarm bells only now - I have known that Google takes over the world one piece of information at a time for a long time but I don't care. In fact I think that you'd be far more scared if you read EULAs of some other programs or games you're always skipping. ^^ The upside of Chrome is that no matter the EULA you can always check the source code to see what is being collected etc. while you don't have this option with closed-source programs. P.S. If you want a browser that just works - Opera might be the thing for you. |
