Post subject:  The Kritzkrieg - underused and missunderstood

When the Kritzkrieg was released I gave it a go for a couple of times but quickly went back to the Ubercharge. However a few weeks ago I decided to give it a go again mainly as people just run away from a normal Uber and I have now started to get some real success, particularly since the charge rate for it was increased to 25% faster than a standard Ubercharge.

Here's my approach to using it now.

1. Choose who to use it on very carefully.

With a standard Uber you can pretty much gtee that if you use it the person you have Ubered will go charging after the enemy. However with the Kritzkrieg you really need to choose a player thats good at the class (most of the time). Essentially using it on a Noob is a waste of time - sorry anyone just starting but it is a fact. Once I've worked out who can make the most of it those 1 or 2 players are the ones I try to give it to all the time (while still sharing the general healing requirement to everyone). Last night a player called d@g3 (I think) was really making the most of it and was owning big time, and I think I ended up with over 60 assists on one map.

2. Use the Kritzkrieg on a player being Ubered by another Medic.
This is pretty powerfull and invinsible Heavy/Soldier firing 100% Crits. As a medic you just need to stay as far back as possible.

3. Offensive Players are best.

Pretty obvious I hope but Heavies / Soldiers and Demo's are the ones to use it on.

4. Ignore players whinging for you to change to normal Ubercharge gun.

I've had this a few times, normally from pyros (lol) - ignore them. The increased offensive power that an Kritzkrieg can bring can turn a game in an instance - you just need to know how to use it. Having said that there are situations when you need the normal Uber and making sure you swap to it is important.

5. The other team don't see a Kritzkrieg coming.

As mentioned at the start the first thing that happens with a normal Uber is everyone gets warned and all run away. However there's no warning when you unleash the Kritzkrieg and time it right you can take out 4/5 players in seconds with a good Heavy. With a normal Uber you would be lucky to get 2.

So there's what I've learnt. I tend to use the Kritzkrieg 75% of the time now.

I find it tends to be best whe used while you're defending.
When you're attacking most of the time you need the Uber to get through the turrets. But on defence you don't have to worry about turrets that much. On that last corner on the 3rd stage of Dustbowl, having a demo fire crit grenades round or a kritzgrieging pyro run around can really cause mayhem to the offensive preparations.

1. True, using it on some random bloke usually doesn't net the result you want. Although random soldier seems to work, because of the insane high splash damage that crit rockets do. Anyhow yeah use it on people you know are decent.

2. Not as effective, people will run away anyhow and smart people will still shoot at the ubered person, lots will miss and hit you (especially true for pipebombs, who are the bane of someone using the kritzieg)

3. I only use it on Soldiers and the occasional demoman tbh. Heavy and pyro just can't rack up the same amount of kills (widely inaccurate and short range). Only when there really is nobody else around I'll use it on one of those

4. Depends, if there is another medic on the team who uses the normal uber. Else you are going to have trouble with turrets.

5. Well, there is this big crackling energy around their gun... I don't have a problem spotting a kritzieg uber. The difference is, that people know they can still kill you and end it prematurely. Thats why they don't run away so fast, because they hope to kill either the medic or the patient.

I still find the normal uber to be better overall, it just has better utility. Kritzieg isn't so bad now, but you are still fucked when someone deploys a normal uber against you. Yes you'll recharge faster, but thats only if you manage to get away, else you have to wait for respawn as well :p
Afaik the kritzieg charges only 10 seconds faster or so.

Yeah - basically I switch between the Medigun and the Kritzkrieg all the time now depending on the situation. The Kritzkrieg rules IMMENSELY on Arena Maps where the charge advantage combined with the mayhem you can bring upon unsuspecting players is wonderful.
I mean - people can easily run away from an Ubercharge since it's directed more at survival but running away from a Kritzkrieg is almost impossible with all that firepower...

I wonder if any pro clans started using the Kritzkrieg in matches... Again, the situation could be similar to arena maps and more often than not you can "pre-empt" a potential incoming Uber with the Kritzkrieg. =)

I dunno. Me and Crackhead used it one night, him as Medic, me as Heavy and we pretty much dominated anybody who dared come near us. It was good. Real good.

I just can't be arsed with the Heavy anymore though. He's just too damn slow.

To me the heavy is superior to most other classes when Kritz'ed. Normally when cracky and I muck about we end up with between 5-10 kills pretty much every time. The main weakness of the heavy as has been pointed out is that he's not very accurate from a distance. Good news is he doesn't have to reload once every four shots like the soldiers do.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!

Since I play mainly soldier I love the kritzkrieg, but I don't see it around much (safe for Crovax, he just likes to kritzuber me~)
When I play medic I prefer the normal uber and I don't really see the kritzkrieg being used in leagues much, maybe for one round to surprise but that's it.. it's usually a battle of who can trigger each others uber first..

Start of the map is pretty useless if the enemy team has snipers.

lately I've experienced bugs with the kritzkrieg, it can get fully charged but I'm not able to use the ûber for some reason,

I've tried this several times on several servers and get the bug from time to time, never had the problem with the normal über though

When it comes to ubers and kritzkriegs at the same time - we checked it when we were achievement-farming and sadly (or perhaps: thank God ;-) it didn't work...
Might be good to know so that you don't waste a Kritz charge for nothing since it literally does nothing should you be left standing to an ubered medic+patient pair and guess for whom the enemies will go for. ;-)

Yeah - I just tried to emulate that again on my computer using bots - didn't work out too well because I was too lazy to make binds to all the bot commands and and had major trouble with bot_mimic... ;-)
I guess a 30 second testing run with two other guys might do just as well. :-P

Mweh, 1 kritz medic in 1 team is enuf, just the diversity of the medics can make a team win or loose.

And yes, if the target ur ubering with a krieg is a newbie, dont even try 2 uber him -.-

And u guys should see me and biff go at it :) He had like 170 points on 1 map? i had like 130+

OK - we did some quick PROPER not coincidental testing now and we can conclude with 100% certainty that IT DOES WORK!

You can have an Uber and a Kritz-charge at the same time which is pure pwnage. :-D

Only problem with the Uber-Kritz double team is that the Kritz wielding medic is still vulnerable and since the plan tends to revolve around putting yourself in the line of fire it can lead to him getting killed before his full charge is used.

All it takes is a little co-ordination dawg.

People always turn tail and leg it when they see an ubered Heavy and Medic. They'll be too busy eyeing up the exit to realise it's the ultimate death bringing trio. They'll be kissing the dirt before you can say "Turn your head and cough"

Post subject:  Re: The Kritzkrieg - underused and missunderstood

However, I don't know if using both charges at the same time is really that clever. Perhaps have a medic with an Uber follow you while Kritzkrieged but have him activate the charge only when needed (well, it's logical ^^) the other way round I'd probably not Kritz an Ubered guy unless he would have to withstand HEAVY enemy fire or sentries - I'd wait for the Uber to run out when all the enemies would come out of hiding (Hey! His Uber ran out!) and then let my patient (whatever class he is) mow them down. :-D

In my experience it's really effective used in arena maps, the faster charging rate can make a huge difference.

Post subject:  Re: The Kritzkrieg - underused and missunderstood

Oh yes indeed - some rounds are so fast that the normal uber wouldn't even have time to fully charge, not to mention the fact that without respawning killing people (which is the thing the Kritzkrieg excels at) becomes a far greater priority than simply being invincible and pushing past a choke-point (which usually isn't there ^^).

I'd usually just use the Medigun as it's the one everyone seems to want on them(Mainly big headed heavys) but I'm getting rather attached with the Kritzkrieg on payload maps. According to wiki the Kritzkrieg doesn't work with the spies butterfly knife. :(

When I play soldier and I notice a medic wants to use a normal uber on me I would usually shout "don't do it!"
But I love the kritzkrieg on me <33
It's 9 out of 10 times a complete slaughter :D

I usually turn my kritz on the heavy and activate it, but there r occasians that i also look for the appropriate class 2 uber. Sometimes its a demo 2 clear out pesky sentries and their engineers. Soldiers in medium range/short range. Heavy is the all baddie, he can kill very fast if they r close/ medium range. He only needs 4 shots(this is my own heavy exp. , he was a mile away) 2 kill a sniper with crit hits :)
