well ignoring the minecraft comment, ( :ugly: ) I think counter strike is AWESOME. However, i have no influence on SpA :P Just thought id throw out mah opinion :mrgreen:

I'm a fan of C:SS surf servers (preferably non-deathmatch RPG) myself. But I'm kinda crazy, so don't mind me.

We used to host counterstrike, and counterstrike source

The time of these games is over, their popularity has peaked and trying to find a playerbase for either of these games is an impossibility.

This thread is more for newer games which will be released soon, or have only just been released :wink:

Try world of warcraft. It's a tad expensive to run, but it's an incredibly popular MMO, and if a lot of this place's population starts voting on voting websites, the player base here could swell to the thousands. I've seen it happen before.

You know WoW runs on blizzards dedicated servers, its not hosted by 3rd parties, unless illegally hacked and done so - which is something we wont be using our equipment for. As for our numbers swelling to the thousands? Not really our intention.

Private WoW servers are not illegal if you follow Blizz's guidelines. Basically it's "no using donation money for personal uses" and other such things, mostly based on legal guidelines.

But I do suppose large communities are a huge thing to organize and handle, but that's only if it gains huge amounts of popularity.

Of course, it's really difficult to get such a thing off the ground. But I can assure you, it's not illegal, but it is expensive, which is a major issue. It's something like 200-500USD a month, depending on which package you get.

So it's a bad idea.

They don't specifically outline them on a website, and I don't know the legality of it 100%. You'd be better off asking the admin of an actual private server. Just go to <I WONT PUT LINKS TO ILLEGAL WEBSITES IN MY POSTS> pick and choose, then ask around. Thing is, you don't use Blizzard's core, you use a custom emulator with most of their data.

I DO know, however, that Blizzard likes to shut people down when they get too successful. They take it as "people are stealing our player base!" But they don't have any legal method of shutting them down unless admins do stupid things, like taking donation monies for private use.

Your best bet, gib, would be to talk to someone who actually HAS ran a place like that, and to ask them about what they encountered and how they dealt with it.

near the top., you are NOT allowed to host private servers as it inflicts with their terms of use.

Edit: There is a way for people to report private servers and close them down. You just got to mail them.
Anyways far Cry 3???
Far cry 2 had ok multiplayer but lacked in a few areas. If they make it better I would suggest it!
