EvE equals grinding more then WoW. Meaning u spend more time gathering resources and selling/refining them, then actual rpg style anything. Corporation battles are only fought if either side is equally in strenght, either that or the sucky corp just logs out and w8 untill you guys leave/scatter and then comes back. FUN!

I know a guy who played EvE online, and always when i asked him what he was doing, he said he was grinding(gathering resources). When i asked him why he said "Now i want that BIGGER ship" or "I want that ship because its cargo hold is bigger" OR get this.. This is my favorite "we need a fast ship 2 draw off enemy corp ship fire" (battles only last like for 5 min, once a month, loosing team runs for the hills and logs).

And the only rpg thingie in the game is if u use skills u will get better with them, Mining means u get (exp?)points and get better with it. Meaning u will gather faster.. WHOOPtiefuckingDOO, more grinding. Same when u refine the ore u gathered after that, refining ore will get u points and u will make better things afterwards... wich u sell... WOOHOO, grinding trap.
U spend about 95% of the time of what ive seen/read/heard grinding ur arse off for another ship/weapon/ensurance(for ur ship) then actually playing an RPG. Now then... whos up for WoW then? U guys can make me lots of money u gold miners :D

This game IMHO sux balls, even more then the ballsucking champion, IF THERE WAS 1. Dont believe the hype or the adds. Play it and puke ur guts out. Its a terrible game.

PS. I hate long posts.....

You know, CrackHead, meanwhile I don't think that grinding is a viable argument against MMORPGs anymore although it's also the primary reason why I, by and large, stopped playing them.

I mean - I think people simply expect and like grinding in MMORPGs - you repeat some easy task and get rewarded for it. This also works well for the designers since by introducing the concept of time spent over actual player skill required to be good at a MMORPG they bind the customers and can suck out more money out of them.

Why am I saying that? Well - several months ago I started playing Dofus, a MMORPG that I had observed for quite a while and which was praised because of its unique style and gameplay mechanics, e.g. the turn-based combat.

You know what? It turned out to be grind-tastic - I managed to get my characters into level 40+ territory (out of 200 levels, sigh) only to realize that it if I played on I would only be doing the same stuff over and over again - only with stronger monsters (objectively, because relative strength would be the same) or higher level players (in Dofus tactics are overrated - it's your level and equipment or class selection (some are better against others) that win you battles).

I really liked Guild Wars (been playing it for over three years if I recall correctly) because it didn't have all of this grinding initially but then it got messed up as well with the introduction of artificial titles and people not wanting to play with you if you weren't of rank such and such, which of course required epic grinding...

After getting a lot of player feedback Guild Wars 2 will be very conventional from what I read and saw so there you have it - MMORPGs seemingly have to be the way they're now and EVE is full of grinding then so be it. Millions of people like their games that way so the question you have to ask yourself is if YOU fit into the MMORPG-gamer community, a question to which the answer is "no" in my case...

Wtf are you talking about?

In EVE, everything gives you ressources. If you like running missions, you will not only gain the money from the mission, you will also gain additional items from encounters on the way. These items can be sold for a nice profit. If you like ratting, you will not only gather the bounty, but you will also gain a shitload money from the drops. Basically, everything gives you a lot of additional items. You will not need most of these items, so you sell them for cash to buy more of the items you DO need. EVE is all about playing the markets.

As for ships, they take only very little grinding. Since ships are meant to be lost, they are relatively cheap to build. Ofcourse, some ships have bigger corgo hulls than others, but modules can make up for most of this.

In EVE online, many small corps fight with success, so it's bull to say that they will always run away. The most skilled PVP'ers are mostly in small corps.

If you have not played EVE, how can you load off such bull that fights only lasts for 5 minutes every month?
Recently, I've been engaged in hour-long engagements day after day for months. EVE is what you makes it, so if you decide not to fight, stop whining about only fighting once every month.

You OBVIOUSLY have not understood anything about the game, especially not when it comes to the skill system. No you DO NOT GAIN SKILLS BY USING THEM! You gain skills by training them. And unlike any other game, you can actually train skills while offline, so your point about how you need to grind for hours to gain skills could not be further away from the truth.

Not only that, EVE online allows character trading, as well as ISK-buying, as long as it happens for either ISK or gametimes. So if youdo not want to grind, buy your way forward!

I cannot understand how you canbitch so much about a game you CLEARLY understand NOTHING about!
I find you to be very gullible, and I think of your friend as a retard!

Post subject:  Re: EvE On-line

I played WoW on an RP server for the RP. We also did PvE though and because of the lack of grind, is sucked (I'm talking about TBC). Grinding is what makes your character stronger than the others. Sure, skill counts, but that also comes with time spent playing. It's not cool to have everyone at the same level, experiencing the same content and blabla. Sure, it pleases the casual players, but that's it. In a mmo you want to become better the more time you play it. It's what keeps you hooked if you're playing competitively.

EVE offers a player driven economy which is actually quite nice. You have what the people produce. If nobody has the schematics for the OMG2000X3 Ship, nobody in the game has it. It was the case of titan class ships for a lot of time. Also, if the miners don't mine, ships woun't be built and so on.

And mining isn't simple grinding since mining ships tend to get attacked a lot, especially in low security circles.

Mr happy comes in and kills the fun!

I'd say murdered the fun, held EvE online under the water till it stopped breathing.

I could understand your opinion if your points were valid. But not a single of them is. So I don't understand why you have the urge to come here and bash something you know nothing about!

Well people like different games. Some will enjoy Diablo2 more than Baldur's Gate 2 and so on.

Me and a friend played it a year back or so, it was really fun since we were just messing around and I agree that none of crackheads points are really valid.

We made a 2 man corporation (:P) and had a war against an 8 man corporation and were winning but then we just kind of gave it up, probably because we didn't really know anyone else playing and also we had both lost our best ships which had taken quite a bit of time to save up for. I would probably start playing again just because the bounty missions are just so fun when obliterating everything with missiles.
