Before we continue. What format are you buying these films in?

Obviously if it's DVD then there's no limitations. If it's Blu Ray then there is.

If it's a mix then we can really dance.

Equilibrium. Action. Post-apocalyptic event set in a walled in city and the outskirts. There is no more war, but at a cost. A drug that has been introduced negates all feelings and urges. War has been abolished. There are resistance members who r apposed 2 this. These people r the enemy of the peace.

Event Horizon. Thriller/Horror. Sfi-fi. The Event Horizon ship who is able 2 get 2 one point of the galaxy 2 another in an instant was lost years ago and now has surfaced again. A ship and its crew r sent 2 investigate it.

Akira. Anime. Action. Just watch it :D

Four Rooms. comedy. 4 different rooms, 4 different directors. A bellhop is getting fustrated because of FUCKEDUP events :D

One of the only films i've ever thought as a "masterpiece" was Donnie Darko, probably a Thriller, if you haven't seen it please do! Really makes you think, very well made, and the ending just made me "wtf, wow, wtf, wow, wtf?" for a few hours.

The Green Mile. is apparently very good (i've only read book though, which is amazing :P) Set on death row, the story of, basically, a big black man ("John Coffey, but not like the drink") sentenced to death for the rape and murder of 2 young girls. Drama? probably.

Shawshank Redemption, feels like a long film but gripping, set inside a prison, Drama i guess.

Pulp Fiction, Action, interesting filming style, funny in dark humour way a lot.

I'll post more later when i've more time.

I've read and talked to people who said they understood the movie. I don't believe them. It has an open ending and you can beleive what you like. Great movie though. :P

@Greasy_greabo

There are a LOT of movies worth watching. I suggest you buy this book and start watching them. It's a great, great collection. The movies are categorised and they have a small description written. The last I've seen from it were Annie Hall and The Breakfast Club.

You know what, Greasy - I'd simply fire up Wikipedia on pages like YEAR_in_film (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_in_film) and quickly browse through the movies scanning for actors you like or titles that look appealing. Alternatively open all movie pages and look at their plots. Then DEFINITELY check ratings at http://www.rottentomatoes.com - one critic (e.g. one forum member) might be wrong but when a site that collects hundreds of reviews says that something is crappy or good it most likely is.

I'm saying that because tastes are different and I already saw one movie (won't name the title :-P) recommended here that I for my part found to be one of the worst I ever watched because it was pretentious and stupid although it tried to come across as smart. I'm not saying that you would have felt the same way but there's a good chance you would.

Over a year ago I started to catch up with many movies I missed in cinemas since the late '80s/early '90s and I did exactly like I described - now I have run out of stuff to watch but I'm convinced that I didn't skip any worthwhile films and at least I was able to attune the list to my taste.

Alternatively do as sebas recommends. I DEFINITELY wouldn't listen to single recommendations by other people unless you know them very, very well - otherwise you're in for a load of crap and/or even good movies but ones that don't appeal to you.

Don't dig too deep Crackhead - I already refused to point out the title of a *certain* movie. I don't want to derail this thread by discussing how awful or awesome I find movies recommended by somebody else because in the end it doesn't matter much from Greebo's perspective (or the guy's who liked them)...

Well, everybody enjoys different things. Also the mood you're in should tell you what movie you should watch. If you're tired and want something easy and you go on to watch, say, Waking Life you're really not gonna be able to enjoy it. :-P

That's why when people ask for movie recommendations I tell them to look at popularity votes, even if that sounds a bit stupid. imdb's list is pretty good though. That book I pointed out earlier too. Because they take into account all genres of movies and styles. Just read the description and see if it appeals to you.
