Post subject:  Driver Update - Cant connect to the Internet

Ok, my problem is the following: After starting L4D, Steam said my GPU drivers arent the newest. So I downloaded the latest from Nvidias HP. But, they said before installing new drivers, I should deinstall the old ones before.

Im using Vista, so I went to "System Control(?)" (Systemsteuerung in German), searched for Nvidia (as descriped on the Nvidia HP), and the thing it found, I double clicked. I chose "deinstall all drivers, including Display (below there were standing all the drivers I would deinstall, something was standing with ethernet, but I just clicked ok (yeah it was stupid I guess)).

After deinstalling succeeded, I rebooted the PC, installed the new drivers, rebooted again, and it worked.

Only issue Ive found so far - I cant connect to the internet (Im writing from another pc here).

I dont know what to do right now...

Ive checked the "device-manager(?)" (Geräte-Manager in German).
Issues with drivers appear here:
Other Devices - Unknown Device (Driver not installed) (Code 28)
Network Adapter (Netzwerkadapter) - 6TO4 Adapter - Driver is installed, but Windows cant load it. Code 31
Network Adapter - isatap.{7AAF81AD-D7C2-493C-B9F8-A18795C2CAB3} - Driver is installed, but windows cant load it Code 31
System Devices (Systemgeräte) - Nvidia nForce PCI System Management - Driver isnt installed
System Devices - Nvidia nForce System Management Controller - Hardware Device cant be started cause Configuration Informations (in the registration) arent complete or are damaged (Code 19) (I translated this myself)

I checked Google for several things (what is nvidia nforce management thingy), but I couldnt find a solution so far...

Another thing I mentioned is, normally, when I click on the 2 computers in the bottom right corner (the network icon thingy), there stands "connected to: network (only local)" (when not connected to the internet).
But right now there stand "not connected" to anything. It also doesnt say something like "No LAN-Wire(?) (LAN-Kabel in German) connected)" and it seems the pc doesnt recognize if i stick the LAN-Wire(?) in.

Anyone can help?

Regards, Relentless

Hi,

It looks like to me you are using a NVIDIA chipset aswell, and you accidently break those drivers when wanting to de-install your GFX drivers.

Check what chipset you have on your motherboard, and download the driver (nforce i think) package on www.nvidia.com.

It seems there more than just one nForce series...

How do I find out which chipset I have (the exact name I mean)?

Tried with a program called WinAudit that I found with Google, but it cant tell me.

use cpu-z, run it and open the mainboard tab for chipset infos

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Okay, checked with cpu-z. It said:

Chipset NVIDIA GeForce 7100
Southbridge NVIDIA nForce 630i

And this one is indeed on NVIDIA's homepage! (http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/nforce_6 ... 08_uk.html)(But instead of .co.uk i used .de)

But, again they tell me I should deinstall my GFX drivers first. So, that means in the following order:

1) Deinstall GFX Drivers
2) Install nforce thingy drivers
3) Reinstall GFX Drivers

Is that correct? (I rather ask twice before I break my PC even more)

yeah, uninstall gfx drivers, install the nforce drivers and before you install the new gfx drivers (geforce 178.xx is the latest version with geforce 7 support if i remember right) remove the old gfx drivers, BUT ONLY gfx drivers, leave the rest untouched, reboot and install the new geforce drivers
