So I finally got my mic working. The solution was to have it further away from my mouth - go figure.

Anyways, I want to get my ass kicked by more competative players, but I have no idea on how to get into one.
Anybody wanna hold my hand and help me out?

in tf2 they are called pickups~
if you got irc then you can find pickups in #mpuktf2.pickup
Some of us play pickups, but not a lot ^^"

edit: even got you a link: click~

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't have irc yet(haven't used it in years), but I will download it.
Btw, what's the channel name for SA and server on irc?

So I did my first pug yesterday and everything that could go wrong went wrong.
First I couldn't connect to the server, because I thought you only had to write "connect *ip" in the console to connect to the server and then write the password. Of course I was wrong. Ventrillo didn't work either, I got in but nobody could hear me. Got yelled at by some people on my team who surely would've gotten a taste of Commander Cool's foul mouth if I could. Since I was late I was forced to play my two least played classes; scout and heavy. 17 deaths, 4 kills, dominated by almost their entire team and a 6 - 0 defeat.

It was fun, gonna try to get into another one tonight.

I usually start up my tf2 before the pickup starts so I can get into the server quick, that way I can pick my favourite class and not end up as a scout ^^
(use "connect <ip> ; password <password>" to quickly connect)

I'm also ahead in time in ventrilo testing if it works, can never be too sure ;p

Well, it wasn't like I sat there with my dick in my hand at all. And as far is know, there's no way to test vent without actually being connected to a server(please tell me I'm wrong). And after you recived the info you have like 5 minutes to get everything sorted out and when you put stress into that equation..well, you know the rest.

If only I can get my vent working propperly, then the next match should be a smooth sail as far as the technical stuff goes.

Demm: So is your face =(

I'm shocked at how much different it was, hadn't felt that sort of rush since the game was released. You know, capping your first point all alone.

Why do they use vent anyways?

There are not much good alternatives. You have vent and TS which are both easy to use and well known, but both have mayor issue's in latency. As alternative we choose Mumble, which has proven to be the ultimate low-latency VoIP client for gaming. Only possible downside on Mumble is that it might be a bit too advanced for people, alltho i think if you propperly read the wizzard instructions and follow it to the letter, you should have no problem setting it up. TS and vent are more tools which more or less work 'out of the box'.

I just installed mumble as ordered by mint the freshmaker, gonna see if I can get it up and running tonight.
Do all of you SPA people use it? Does it mean that you can't use in-game voice?

Most of use it yes. Thats why also we might seem a little quiet ingame sometimes, as we're all talking on Mumble 8)

You can still use your ingame voice system besides Mumble.

It's really easy to install... even I got it and I bought my first real mike just cause Mint said so. Just put a different hotkey (or mouse button!) for the push-to-talk in Mumble and TF2/Steam and you're fine. :)

I took up on futari(?)'s suggestion and I use mouse button 4 for Mumble and mouse button 5 for ingame chat.

Unless your call and have a 2 button mouse! Then the best way is capslock as long as you dont feel like typing too much :)

What do you guys bind? There is not much to bind at all imho, which is a bit of a shame. So many buttons.

Any other sites for pugs? One that doesn't use fucking ventrilo would be prefered.

Post subject:  Re: PUGs

Whats the problem with Ventrilo?

Test with "monitor" and say some things at normal loudness.

The average numbers you use as sensitivity. Then use test.

Say some things. If youre very quiet, higher outbound.

People should now be able to hear you

Post subject:  Re: PUGs

When I monitor I can see that it's picking up sound from the mic, but when try to test it, there's no sound coming out.
God I hate Ventrilo.

Post subject:  Re: PUGs

Lower sensitivity.

And set mic output to the highest (not in Vent but in the Audio-Software, eg I have Realtek HD Audio Manager, I also can change mic boost there).

Me too. But mumble and my in-game voice in TF2 works fine. I'm not gonna dick around with the settings, 'cuz I use it to record my awesome music.
