Under load? I'd say that you shouldn't go over 70 degrees Celsius. Of course the lower the better but truth be told your computer will start crashing and display weird behavior long before you reach any kind of unsafe temperature that would do permanent damage to your CPU - you just might lower your CPUs life expectancy with constantly high temperatures... My CPU reaches 50-something under full load (56? Haven't checked lately...) And has been overclocked from 2.4 GHz to 3.2 GHz for two years now... Air cooling but with a giant radiator. ;-) |

I dunno what the maximum safe temperature is, but personally I don't like anything to be constantly over 60 degrees C (that's probably a bit on the safe side tbh). don't forget to stress test it properly and all, so that it doesn't stay below the temperature you want for only about 5 minutes |

Well the stock fan sucks cause even before any OC'ing OCCT complains after about five min that the temperature is too high |

Yep - e.g. use this tool - I like its design as if it came straight out of Soviet Russia. ^^ In Soviet Russia the CPU overclocks YOU! :-P http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php |

Each CPU and its cores have its own failure point and their own max temp recommendations. Search for your CPU's exact revision on google along with some temperature words around it. |
