On modern consoles downloadable content is a permanent feature and used increasingly by game publishers to get us to spend more money on the games we enjoy. Now that same service is being offered to publishers of PC games through Valve’s popular digital distribution platform Steam. Publishers will now be able to offer in-game downloadable content for purchase via Steam bringing the PC platform up-to-date and allowing multi-platform releases to carry the same level of content on PC as on PS3 and Xbox 360. Even better, Steam are allowing the content to work with games not originally bought through Steam. ![]() Twisted Pixel Games, creators of The Maw, are the first to take advantage of the new service offering two new levels for purchase individually. Michael Wilford, CEO at Twisted Pixel commented: We’re happy that we can now offer Steam customers significant expansions to the Maw story, delivering more Maw directly to gamers while they’re still playing the game. To make utilizing in-game downloadable content easier Valve have also added the feature to Steamworks – its free-to-use set of tools and services for developers and publishers. Offering extra content for cash.. DAYS after the game was released is really not the way to go.. just put it in the original game and then release that for 12 euro instead or something.. I hope other companies won't do that exact same thing, if it's good content for a nice price I'm fine with it though ![]() |

The idea is ok... but only as long as the "feature" isn't missused for charging for "patches". |

The whole DLC thing is gettin ridicolous - Resident Evil 5 will receive versus mode via downloadable content in few weeks, because developers say that this was developed separately from the game and there was no way to implement this feature in release ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
