is this worth buying in the 10% discount indie sale? I enjoy guitar hero, which I imagine is kinda similair, and the idea of using my own music appeals to me, but is this basically a snazzy version of flash flash revolution? |

I have to say it's a great game, it's not the kind of game I would play all the time but definitely fun to race on your favourite songs every now and then~ The price is not even high ![]() |

By the way - it's worth noting that Audiosurf is not really a music game in the classic sense - the blocks aren't generated to precisely reflect the melody of the given track (e.g. the lanes don't represent notes/strings or whatever) - the are generated BASED on it and that's a difference - the gameplay is centered around a Tetris-ish Bejeweled-ish match-3 mechanic, not around playing an instrument. Audiosurf is awesome if you want to surf on your favorite tracks from time to time. It's simply nice to have around, whether you play it obsessively or not. =) |

I rarely listen to music so I just use audiosurf as a media player. And even if I don't play and just go freeride, it's got a nice view. |

Yeah, I noticed it doesn't entirely reflect the song but it's good enough for me ![]() Indeed, great game from time to time but not a game you would play 2-3 hours in a row o: |

Post subject: | Re: audiosurf |
Well - what I meant wasn't that Audiosurf is somehow at fault for not reflecting a song perfectly - I just meant that it isn't supposed to be an instrument simulation and hence it does what it does - it uses an algorithm to generate tracks to race on. You can't really blame Audiosurf for not being accurate just like you can't blame a visualization for not showing exactly what you expected - according to their respective algorithms they're doing just fine. ^^ I had a big discussion about Audiosurf's representation of tracks, mostly with people who play Guitar Hero, DDR etc. and they couldn't grasp the concept of a game based on music but not trying to emulate notes and stuff... |

Audiosurf rocks, I like the pro/ninja mono characters, especially on Propane Nightmares by Pendulum :3 |

Mono chars are for n00bs. :-P To truly master Audiosurf you have to learn to use Eraser, Pusher etc. I always laugh my ass off when I see the high-scores of some songs and they're filled with mono chars - usually I can top the list after one or two runs with "proper" characters provided this isn't a very popular track. ^^ |

It's great fun... although I wouldn't called it a "game" in the original meaning. It's more an "experience" and it's cool to "surf" your favorite tracks. I bought it right on release, played it a lot. Now I'm playing it less, but that's more a consequence of having less time. |
