Thats it I've had all I can take. The game loading speed gain and silence of my SSD isn't worth all negatives, so that £250 well spent. I'm going back to a normal hard drive so I thought I would ask you guys and girls which one you think I should get as I'm clearly not capable of choosing one. I want the fasted possbile and around the 150-200gb mark is fine as its just for the OS and programmes. |

The 500gb drives are usually much faster, so are the terrabyte drives. The Western Digital 1TB drives in particular are good... |

Fastest = Velociraptor. |

Velociraptor, deffinately! Saint has that drive in his pc and you won't believe the speed increase you can notice with his pc with solely upgrading that disc, it's an amazing disc. For the rest, you'd be set with what mute said. A 500 gb or a 1 TB disc would be good. I personally like the samsung discs, although, they're not very well known for theird sturdy discs that never break ![]() |

it sounds like you won't be needing the extra capacity, but the 500gb samsungs are, supposedly, on-par with raptors in terms of speed, so that's what I would go for personally. I would advise against raptors; from what I've heard they aren't worth the cost and make a helluva noise. |

Raptor Velocy! I use it myself and its extremely fast! <3 it! #edit P.s. mine doesn't make any sound. The 'old' 3.5" drives were bloody noicy, these 2.5" onces arn't! |

Yep, I have a Velociraptor too, and the speed increase was really noticable when I switched from my 500GB WD. And it makes far less noise than my other drives. Though I have to say, my old RAID was still a lot faster than my Velociraptor, even though it used "slow" disks. So if you have some old drives already, buy yourselfs a proper RAID controller and you'll love it. Oh, and don't buy anything else than WesternDigital or Samsung. |

Guys there is a few different versions of the 300gb model - one with something called a backplane? What is thaty? |

Post subject: | Re: Thats it - SSD going |
A backplane normally is an interface board connecting multiple hardware devices. The board enables them to internally to communicate. Not sure what it does on the raptor. Got some links? |

The new Velociraptors are basically 2.5" drives, but they have a adapter/cooler attached, so they fit into the standard 3,5" bays. You should get a WD3000GLFS. |

Links here for both models here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=495 Thanks Demm - the GLFS is the non-backplane version and its a bit cheaper. |
