Anyone who can borrow me a beta pass for a bit so i can check out the game, see if its anythin worth in terms of spa activity?
The problem is - there are like a gazillion passwords - EA account, main page login, main page protection password... They really went out of their way to make sure nobody gets into the public beta "illegally"... Given my Guild Wars alpha experience this really reminds me more of a closed alpha, than a beta... They also made you (me) accept an NDA (OK, not really SIGN it and send it back to them like ArenaNet did with Guild Wars) which, for example, forbids uploading any screenshots ANYWHERE...
The release was delayed until the end of 2008 so yeah, probably early 2009... -.-
This is pretty funny (in an unfunny kind of way) since the game is pretty much feature complete and plays like anything else out there except for some minor bugs (as if BF2 didn't have bugs :-D)... Currently there's also only one map...
The delay is because they want to pull off a "Steam", I think, which will make the TF2 rip-off complete (in reality it's not THAT much of a plagiarism but you can clearly see the influences here and there).
As to being worth anything in terms of SpA activity... I really don't know... E.g. I don't think there will be any private servers. Currently you're only able to join a game through automatic match-making and in future you'll probably be able to join a game in which your friends are playing but I believe EA wants to have complete control over the servers lest somebody modified them.
All in all this is pretty much like BF 1942/BF2 lite in some regards but then again might be MORE difficult in certain situations. You see - it's basically like a TPP/MMORPG hybrid in which you gain levels and have a gazillion of abilities you need to activate and keep track of. It reminds me of a stripped down Guild Wars with guns or a Tabula Rasa that doesn't actually suck. The vehicles drive almost EXACTLY like in previous BF games, which is nice. Lots of abilities also affect nearby players (in a MMORPG-ish kind of way) so teamwork is really important if you want to succeed.
What can I say - I like it a lot - I spent like 15 minutes on the creation of EACH of my characters alone since I wanted them to look thematic.
"These pants don't look good enough on him, let's try the next pair." ;-)
P.S. People do some REALLY crazy stuff with their characters and I kind of dislike it. I wish EA stuck to character customization in certain WW II (although it's not supposed to be WW II - riiiight...) boundaries, not give players almost complete freedom...
