*yawn*

By the way - free updates to WinXP are being phased out as we speak. Muhaha!

And I had my first blue-screen in Vista a couple of weeks ago when I launched a badly coded indie game - notice the word "first" here. ^^

And mind you - I'm not actually a Vista lover - I agree that it had a number of issues initially and was a complete marketing failure for a number of reasons but at its core it isn't a bad system - in fact it's much more modern and feature-rich internally than WinXP.
As to Microsoft pushing out Win7 - of course - since they wanted to phase out WinXP as quickly as possible and Win7 is basically like Vista in its current state so they'll have a return of investment for all the technologies they put into Vista. IMHO it's a bit of a dick move by MS but well. And I'll laugh about all the people who will claim how awesome Win7 is because most likely they will have skipped Vista altogether. =)

Wat.
Quote:
You knew this one was coming. Do I really need to recount everything that's wrong with Vista
Yeah?
Quote:
-- its bloat, its slowness,
Maybe... you're not supposed to use it on a slow machine? Just maybe?
Quote:
its hardware and software incompatibilities,
Yeah let's support legacy hardware and old software for the next 10 years. And that's why many companies decided to downgrade - because their programs are incompatible or have problems with Vista. People are just waaaay to confident that Vista (or windows in general) is compatible with everything - well it's not. And that's one thing you should consider when you buy vista for a computer that's not brand new.
Quote:
its high cost, its confusing versions, its security fumbles and other ineptitudes?
Operating system that costs as much as 2 modern games. And if you don't get the OEM version but buy a standalone version for your ancient piece of 01100011011100100110000101110000, then you're an idiot. Upgrading to vista is just retarded - buying a new computer with vista is logical.
Also, security fumbles? What? I've had no problems with security and the updates are being shat out so often it's almost annoying.
Quote:
Or how about the fact that several of its vital features wouldn't work on computers bearing a "Vista Capable" sticker? Let me share with you one early "review" of Vista:

"I chose my laptop (a Sony TX770P) because it had the Vista logo and was pretty disappointed that it not only wouldn't run [Aero], but more important wouldn't run [Windows] Movie Maker. ... Now I have a $2,100 e-mail machine."

Oh no, the INTEL GRAPHICS MEDIA ACCELERATOR 900 can't run Aero or windows movie maker. I can really see how that is not completely logical. Image

That looks like author of this article never used Vista on computer which is made for this os. My laptop also have "Windows Vista" sticker and it works really fast and nice. Without doing anything with optimalisation or sth else, Vista rated my computer for 4,8. It's very high like for price, for which I bought my laptop (for this day it's around 1122 euro - 4799 PLN, so it was cheaper than computer which author of article bought (mine costs about 1462$)).

I am as satisfied with Vista as I am with Windows overall since I upgraded from 98 to 2000.

Its fast for me as fast and reliable as XP.

Yeah - the difference between us (Vista users) and people wanting to diss Vista at any cost is that they usually aren't running this system or ran for like one week right after release. I mean - Saint has to dig up some articles to have any kind of credibility while e.g. I have run this OS for 2.5 years now, so perhaps, just perhaps, I know a little bit more about its strengths and weaknesses than him. ;-)

Basically everything that had to be said about Vista has already been said and people are repeating the same arguments over and over, even though at least half of them aren't valid anymore.
Yes, Vista has its flaws and yes, it was a marketing failure for various reasons but internally it is a good system and far more modern than XP.

I can confirm that Vista runs pretty slowly on old computers but if you have ANYTHING with ~2GB RAM and bought in the last 2 years it will run it just fine and it will probably even be faster than XP in a lot of cases. The only problems I experienced with Vista were with NVIDIA drivers (another one of Saint's favorite companies ;-) which by the way account for around 30% (!) of Vista crashes. 0_o

I've been using vista64 for more then 1 year now and am very satisfied with it.
My pc is quite good so it's fast, and I've had no security issues.
The only bluescreens I got had were caused by failing ram or dumb nvidia drivers that didn't control my graphics card's fan correctly, overheating it.

most people that don't like vista either don't update it or haven't used it since the first few months after release

vista is fine
