Well greeny we need more details.

When do those thingies happen? Only after extensive using of it or directly after booting? Exact messages would help too. Whats written on the blue screen, whats on the errorbox?

The only wild guess I can give with so few informations are overheating issues.

I'd definately go for a RAM upgrade tbh, Your graphics chipset only looks to be only 256 (or less) dedicated memory, the rest (upto 384mb) it will take from the system which will affect your gaming experience and most likely explain the BSoD's

Hope that helps

On a system in good shape you won't get a blue screen just because your Ram runs out.

Just what i was thinking. Sounds like a driver error or something. Also the screensaver doesn't make any sense (why do people use that anyway?)

I assume you checked all default steps first? (AV/AS up2date, windows up2date, drivers up2date etc etc)

Do a system restore to rule out software and if it happens again then it's hardware (most likely)

System restore on Acer machines tend to be CD based, Most don't ship with recovery CD's and you have to make them.

A System Restore (or to give it it's proper name a "Full Destructive Restore") Is like SaintK said essentially doing exactly that, it would wipe the laptop of EVERYTHING.....best make sure the porn and TF2 folders are backed up  ...You would then have the laptop working like it did the day you brought it, In doing a system restore you rule out any software issues (such as conflicting or missing drivers) any problems thereafter would be hardware related.

wait

before you do anything else -ANYTHING - by a can of compressed air (5 bucks, maybe?) and give it's insides a good old dust out

if you've never done this before, believe me, it can bring machines back from the dead

Give that a go but be careful, if the laptop is still in warrenty make sure you don't break any stickers that may be covering the compartment doors or it'll void the warrenty, if it's outside of warrenty then go nuts

Could be memory related, what you could do is download 'What's Running'

http://www.whatsrunning.net/whatsrunning/download.aspx

Open it and it will give you a list of all the programms running on your machine that are eating away at your memory. Only stop the things you know otherwise you may end up stopping programmes that the system relies on. For instance something like Norton is a big memory whore! You can always do a google search if you are not sure.

Hope that helps

hmm that doesn't sound good Mr Green, Firefox shouldn't use up that much memory... try shutting down your DNS client, click on start, click on run to open up the console and type in services.msc then turn it off or set it to manual; by setting to manual it will only run if it is needed. Its responsible for most occasions like this.

BTW the instructions above are for windows XP not Vista, you may have to go a different route for Vista

If your using XP its start->All programs->Accessories->System Tools->System restore. It's probably similar with Vista.

that didnt work because my last restore point was only a month old....EDIT it was a week old....
EDIT2: is this the right thing
Quote:
1. Power on the machine
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the “Alt” key and press the “F10” key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click “Restore to Factory Default Settings”
4. Click “OK” to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press “OK” to reboot unit
